Three drug peddlers arrested with yabaFARIDPUR: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) recovered a huge amount of Yaba from Boalmari Upailla of the district and arrested three drug peddlers in this connection on Thursday night. According to RAB sources, the elite Force, acting on secret information, found three youths on a motor cycle with suspected movement in Syedpur Bazar area of the upazilla. The RAB members challenged and detained them. After searching them they got 521 pieces of Yaba drug from their possession. The arrested were identified as Imrul, Ohid and Suman all hailing from Shibganj of the same upazilla. According to RAB sources they had been peddling drug in the area for a long time. RAB personnel brought them to Faridpur for interrogation along with the Yaba and the motor cycle reports BSS.Alphabet writing contest held at Barisal Barisal CorrespondentA competition of writing Bangla alphabet and distribution of alphabet learning book held at Barisal central Shaheed Minar on Wednesday afternoon. More than 300 children from different educational institutions of the city participated in the competition. The programme was organized by ‘Karak Natya Samprodaya’ styled as ‘Let us finely write the Alphabets won by the blood (Eso Roktey Jeta Barnomala Sundar Korey Likhi)’. At the end of the competition 9 children, 3 from each of 3 groups,awarded prizes for best writing of the alphabets.T prizes were distributed by Yusuf Kalu, a language movement warrior,Principal Imanul Hakim, fine arts teacher Asaduzzaman.All of the participant children also awarded alphabet learning book ‘Adarsha Lipi’ as courtesy prize.Woman crushed under wheels Chapainawabganj Correspondent A woman was crushed under the wheels of a truck at Ranihati Bazar under Shibganj upazila on Wednesday evening. The deceased was identified as Dolly, 25, wife of Moktar Ali of Islampur under Chapainawabganj sadar upazila.SI Mohammad Ali of Shibganj thana said, as she was crossing the road at Ranihati Bazar, a truck hailing from Sonamasjid run over her killing her on the spot at around 6 pm. Immediately after the accident, the driver and the helper fled away leaving the truck. Being informed, police from Shibganj thana went to the spot, recovered the dead body and handed it over to the relatives of the deceased as they demanded the body without autopsy, he added from the spot. Police also detained the truck.Local sources said, Dolly along with her husband and son was going to her sister’s house to attend a ceremony at Sabek Labhanga in Shibganj upazila. After getting down from a bus she was crossing the road, the sources added.BNP leader held in Bholahat General secretary of Bholahat upazila unit of BNP and chairman candidate for the upcoming upazila election Mozammel Hoque, 55 was arrested on Saturday evening from Medical square under Bholahat upazila. He is the son of late Mohiuddin of Mushribhuja village under the upazila. OC of Bholahat thana Abu Farhad said, there were two cases with Bholahat thana of attacking on police and obstructing police from doing government duties and there was warrant of arrest from the court against him. Arms, ammo recovered from SundarbansBagerhat CorrespondentOne home made single barrel gun and two rounds of live ammunitions were recovered by the Coast Guards from the Eastern Division of Sundarban forest on Wednesday, according to a report received here. Lt. Commander Md. Mohiuddin Majumdar, Operation Officer of the Coast Guards of Western Zone deployed at Mongla that on the day a contingent of the Coast Guards were discharging their normal patrol duties in Sundarban forest and when they reached Chila canal area under Mongla PS in the district a number of jungle pirates who were taking preparations for committing dacoity in fishing boats fled away and took shelter in the deep forest leaving a home made single barrel gun and two rounds of ammunitions. Then the members of the coastguards searched the area and recovered the arm and ammunitions from there.
