Sirajganj clash leaves 22 injured
SIRAJGANJ:Twenty two people, including nine with acid, were injured in a fierce clash between two groups of villagers at Tanai village in Belkuchi upazila on Friday. Officer-in-charge of Belkuchi police station Abdul Hye said the clash ensued between the supporters of Mahbub Haji and Ranju Fakir of the village around 9:30 am following previous enmity over their business. At one stage, both groups spayed acid on each other, leaving 22 people, including nine with acid, injured. On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The injured were rushed to sadar hospital, reports UNB.
250 sewing machines distributed in Narsingdi

A total of 250 sewing machines was distributed free of cost among distressed and poor women in six upazila of the district on Wednesday afternoon. Narsingdi Zilla Parishad gave the sewing machines among the women after providing one month training on ‘sewing and cutting’. Judge of Women and Child Repression Tribunal, Narsingdi, Shamim Ahamed distributed the machines as the chief guest at a function arranged on the occasion at the Zila Parishad premises. Zila Parishad administrator Advocate Asaduzzaman presided over the function and civil surgeon Dr Putul Roy, additional district magistrate Zinnath Rahana were present as special guests. It was addressed, among others, by chief executive officer of the parishad M Abdul Kader, former principal of Narsingdi Government Women College Prof Nurjahan Begum, and UNO of Monohardi upazila Mahamudul Hasan.
The machines were distributed among the women to create employment opportunities and reducing their poverty and improving living standard of the poor people. The chief guest said, the present government is working for alleviating poverty and development of women.
Ten gamblers arrested in Jamalpur
JAMALPUR:Detectives branch police in a special drive arrested 10 gamblers from Hajipur Bazar area under Jamalpur sadar upazila of the district Wednesday night. Local people informed Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Nazrul Islam that some gamblers were playing gambling in Jajipur Bazar area in the late night. Receiving information a team of Detective Branch police raided the area arrested the gamblers. The gamblers are-Atiqur Rahman Chinu 40, of village Hajipur, Fazlu 40, Alfajuddin 37 of village Hajipur Beparipara, Harunur Rashid 39 of village Bali Banderpara, Afor Ali 38 of village Baduripara, Shafiqul Islam 40 of village Gupalpur in sadar upazila, Mujammel 35 of Nayapara area, Belal 42, of Baparipara area of Jamalpur town, Kabir 38 of village Sheikhsadi, Billal 40 of village Kapashatia under Melandah upazila of the district. A regular case under gambling act was filed against the gamblers with Jamalpur sadar police station. Later police produced the accused before a senior judicial magistrate court at 3.30pm and the court sent them to jail, the court sources said, reports BSS.
Youth convicted for teasing schoolgirl
Sunamganj: A mobile court on Wednesday sentenced a young man to six months’ jail for teasing a schoolgirl in Tahirpur upazila. The convict was identified as Rafiqul alias Rabibul,27, son of late Oli Mamud of Mahtabpur village of the same upazila. Officer-in-charge of Tahirpur Police Station Shahidullah said Rafiqul used to tease the schoolgirl on her way to and from school every day. The victim submitted a written complaint to the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of the upazila. Following the complaint, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Rafiqul at about 11:30 am, reports UNB.
