BRAC Agri, Food Security Programme opens in Barisal

Pilot School Feeding Programme for disseminating nutritional messages through cultivating Vegetables and Orange Flesh Sweet Potato (OFSP) in the School Garden was held on Thursday at the Rakudia Government Primary School in Babuganj upazila of Barisal district. Ripan Chandra Mandal, District BRAC Representative, presided over the programme arranged under USAID Horticulture Project. It was addressed among others by Dr. Shuvangkar Baroi, Babuganj upazila health officer, SM Amirul Islam, upazila education officer, Rafikul Islam, head Master of Zamena Khatun School, Putul Rani Mandal, headmaster of Uttar Rakudia Government Primary School, Mashiur Rahman, chairman Dehergati union parishad, Saiful Islam, regional manager (USAID Horticulture) Agriculture and food Security, Manowar Hossain, field coordinator of the project programme.
2 drug peddlers held with Yaba in Faridpur
FARIDPUR: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) – 8 stationed in Faridpur arrested two drug peddlers and recovered 502 pieces of Yaba tablets from their possession from Madhukhali upazilla in the small hours of Friday. According to a press release issued by RAB, acting on secret information the elite force led by ASP Md. Shamim Quddus Bhuiyan rushed to Madhukhali central Idgah ground where two youths were waiting with the drugs for selling to the consumers. RAB with the help of local people caught the two identified as Md. Gazi Biswas, 27 of West Gara Khola and Ikram Khan, 28 of Mesordia under Madhukhali upazilla. After searching the two suspects RAB recovered 502 pieces of Yaba tablets contained in two transparent plastic packets and also recovered three cell phones with four SIM cards. After interrogation the arrested two confessed to RAB that they had been peddling drugs for a long time as a source of their income. Legal measures are underway regarding the arrested two and recovered drugs, reports BSS.
Thunderbolt kills two in Madaripur
MADARIPUR: Two persons, one male and another female were killed in Madaripur by thunderbolt on Wednesday evening. A severe thunder storm started in various areas of Madaripur from the evening and a women worker of a brickfield Himontara, 38, was struck by thunderbolt at Charbachamara area under Shibchar upazila of the district at about 10.00pm and she died on the spot. Himontara wife of Jaynul Bepari hails from Kishoreganj district. A farmer Sattar Mollah, 70, was killed by thunderbolt at Sarder Kandi area under Shibchar upazila of the district on Wednesday evening. His relatives recovered his body from a school this morning. Police confirmed both the incident, reports BSS.
