Digital fair begins in Biswnath

A two-day digital fair began at upazila parishad premises in Biswnath of Sylhet district yesterday. Biswnath upazila administration arranged the fair. Upazila chairman Suhel Ahmed Chowdhury inaugurated the fair while UNO of Biswnath upazila Asadul Haque was in the chair. Among others, Biswnath upazila parishad vice-chairman Nur Uddin Ahmed, female vice-chairman, upazila secondary education officer, upazila Engineer spoke on the occasion. Information service centres, different government organs, educational institutions and NGOs took part in the fair.
 Section 144 imposed in Beanibazar
 The local administration has imposed the Section 144 at Konagram as two groups called separate programmes at the same venue and same time for Tuesday. The restriction will remain in force from 6am to 11pm on Tuesday. Locals said Dakkhin Muria Tafsirul Quran Parishad convened a Tafsir Mahfil (religious gathering) at Office Bazar of Konagram for Tuesday. On the other hand, local Awami League called a meeting at the same venue and same time.
Apprehending trouble, the local administration on Monday evening announced the restriction to maintain the law and order.

Drug store strike postponed in Barisal

The wildcat strike called by drugstore owners in the city postponed after three hours.
Kazi Mofizul Islam, Barisal district president of Bangladesh Chemist and Druggist Association, said the strike was postponed and drug stores in the city reopened at after 10:00 PM Tuesday considering the sufferings of the patients. Shohidul Alam, deputy commissioner Barisal, also requested the association leaders to end the strike and sit on a meeting on Monday to discuss about the alleged harassments of the drug store owners by operating mobile court at 9:30 PM. Mentionable drug store owners in the city started wild-cat strike from 7:30 PM Tuesday night protesting operation of mobile court.Kazi Mofizul Islam, Barisal district president of Bangladesh Chemist and Druggist Association, said a mobile court led by magistrate Sukumar Sarkar accompanied by law enforcers started operation in the city on Tuesday evening. The court fined New Medical Hall of Sadar Road Tk 30,000, for selling date-expired and free sample drug. Manoj Datta, owner of the medicine shop denied paying the fine explaining that those medicines were stocked for return to the company. However magistrate of the court denied to agree with the explanation and detained owner of the shop in default of paying fine.

Legal aid committee meet held

A monthly District Legal Aid Committee meeting was held at District Judge Court conference room on Thursday afternoon. District & Session Judge Md. Mahbub-ul Islam was presided over the meeting.
