Spoken English class begins at Bijoynagar

Free spoken English class was inaugurated at Islampur in Budhanti Union No. 1 of Bijoynagar Upazila of Brahmanbaria on the initiative of Club Project Kin at Islampur Alhaj Kazi Rafiqul Islam School and College on Saturday. Alhaj Kazi Shafiqul Islam, Founder President and Executive Director of Project Kin, was present as the Chief Guest and an exceptional initiative was inaugurated under the chairmanship of Kazi Mohammad Niaz Uddin, President of the Club to make the students proficient in English free of cost. Free education will be provided to rural students in the country to help them become proficient in writing and speaking in English at the initiative of American organization Club Project Kin Branch. Hafez Md. Shafiqur Rahman, Principal of Islampur Alhaj Kazi Shafiqul Islam University, was present on the occasion. Headmaster of Islampur Rafiqul Islam School and College Imran Khan, Principal of Amena Begum Dakhil Madrasa Mokhlesur Rahman, Islampur outpost in-charge Ranjan Kumar Ghosh, advisor Md. Anwar Hossain, Assistant Professor Tofail Azam, Madrasa Super Maulana Mukhlesur Rahman, Lecturer Momin Khan, General Secretary of Press Club Bijoynagar Ziadul Haque and others.

One held with deer skin

One Al-Amin (25) was arrested along with 5 skins of spotted deer of Sundarbans from Digraj Bazar under Mongla Upazila in Bagerhat district by a contingent of RAB-6 of Khulna Zone at Tuesday night (at about 10 pm), according to a report received here. Md. Mazharul Islam, an officer of RAB-6 confirmed the matter. Al-Amin is an active member of a gang of deer-skin smugglers of Sundarbans. He hails from the village Banishanta under Dakop Upazila in Khulna district. Md. Mazharul Islam, a Police Super and an officer of RAB-6 told, the arrested person after hunting deer collected their skins and brought the same to Digranj Bazar in order to sell them to smugglers. But acting on secret information a RAB-6 contingent raided the Bazar at Turdfsy night (at 10 pm) and arrested Al-Amin along with 5 deer-skins. In a primary interrogation the arrestee admitted him to be a member of gang of smugglers of deer-skin. The arrestee and the recovered deer-skins were handed over to Mongla PS for taking legal action.

7 jailed for double murder in Singra

A court has sentenced seven people to seven years in prison and acquitted one for twin murders in Singra of Natore district recently. Besides, the convicts have been fined Tk 10,000 and sentenced to 6 months imprisonment for non-payment. Judge Mohammad Sharif Uddin of the Natore District and Sessions Judge’s Court pronounced the verdict. According to court sources, supporters of Sikkim Pramanik and Quddus Ali clashed on January 26, 1994 in Maugram of Chougram Union of the Upazila at night of Shabebarat. Akkas and Sikkim were wounded in the clashes by Quddus Ali’s supporters. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they died.
Amir Hamza, son of the slain Sikkim filed a murder case at the Singra Police Station accusing 10 people. After taking evidence in the case, the court judge on Monday sentenced seven people to seven years in prison and ordered the release of one. The other two accused in the case have died. The accused were present in the court when the verdict of the case was read out. The accused were later taken to jail.
