2 fishermen fined for catching crabs

A mobile court conducted by Kamalesh Majumdar, UNO and Executive Magistrate of Mongla in Bagerhat convicted two fishermen to pay a fine Tk one thousand on the charge of catching crabs from Sundarbans violating the banning order imposed by the Forest Department on catching of crabs from Sundarbans on Sunday. The mobile court issued the order to seize their boat and crabs caught by them. The convicted fishermen are Md. Rabiul Shaikh (32) and Md. Shahjahan Shaikh (41). They hail from Sonailtala village within Sonailtala Union under Mongla Upazila. It is stated in the prosecution that acting on secret information a squad of naval police deployed Mongla while was discharging their normal duties at the estuary of the river Pashur area known as Trimohana on Sunday morning the naval police raided the area and arrested the fishermen along with their boat and catching. Later, the UNO and the Executive Magistrate of Mongla Upazila conducted the mobile court and awarded the accused fishermen the aforesaid punishment. As per the direction of the court the caught crabs weighing 30 kgs were released in Sundarbans and their boat was seized.

Health camp for lactating mothers begins

A two-day long health camp for the lactating mothers begins in Kishoreganj on Monday.
The programme was supported by Department of Women Affairs ( DWA) in Kishoreganj and Civil surgeon Office arranged the health camp under the Lactating Mother Support Funding Programme to ensure welfare and development of women and children. Civil surgeon( CS) in Kishoreganj dr.Saiful Islam formally inaugurated the health camp while DWA Deputy Director (DD) Mamunur Rashid presided over. Social Welfare Department Deputy Director (DD)Kazi Kamruzzaman, DCS (Promoted Civil surgeon) Dr. Mustafizur Rahman and CAB District president Alam Sarowar Tito were attended as special guests. It was addressed among others by Senior Medical Officer in Family planning Dr.Halima Akhter, Sadar Upazila Vice Chairman Masuma Akhter, and Medical Officer Dr. Hafsa Khatun. On the first day of the health camp, a total of 600 lactating mothers were given free health care services with oral saline, soaps , milk, biscuite and high energetic

Man held for violating girlfriend

Bhangura thana police arrested a young man on Sunday for allegedly raping his girlfriend by threatening to spread intimate videos on Facebook. His name is Bulbul Ahmed Bipul. He is the son of Ismail Hossain of Gajarmara village in Mandutosh union of Bhangura upazila of Pabna. It has been reported that a huge love affair was formed with a young woman through Facebook. At one point, Bipul took the lover to a relative’s house and recorded a video of intimate moments. He later raped her in different places for fear of spreading the video on the internet.
In this way, even if the lover girl becomes pregnant, he pressures her to have an abortion instead of marrying her. Seeing no way out, the young woman went to Bipul’s house and went on a hunger strike demanding marriage. But the young woman called 999 as her cheating boyfriend fled. The police then received a written complaint from the girl.
