Workshop on challenges 4IR in BARI

The Agricultural Statistics and Information and Communication Technology (ASICT) Division of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) arranged a daylong workshop titled ‘Tackling the Challenges of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) in Agriculture at the seminar room of the institute on Tuesday. A total of 50 scientists from different divisions, centers and sub-centers of BARI were participated at the workshop. BARI Director General Dr. Debasish Sarker inaugurated the workshop as chief guest. Chief Scientific Officer of ASICT Division Dr. Md. Saiful Islam presided over the function while BARI Director (Support & Services) Dr. Md. Kamrul Hasan, Director (Research) Dr. Md. Tariqul Islam and Director (Training & Communication) Dr. Muhammad Shamsul Alom were present as special guests. National Consultant a2i Mr. Golam Mohammed Bhuiyan presented the key-note paper on ‘Discussion on Tackling the Challenges of 4IR in Agriculture’. Speakers at the workshop said that the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR or 4th Industrial Revolution or Industry 4.0) is an ongoing massive transformation process of automating the traditional production system in the industrial sector.

Oil tanker collided with sunken ship

An oil tanker named MT Monwara that collided with a sunken ship near at the jetty No.15 in the old channel of Mongla Sea Port on Saturday morning was rescued by the port authorities at the night at about 9 pm, according to a delayed report received here.It is learnt from a press release issued by Md. Makruzzaman Munshi, Deputy Secretary of the Public Relations department of Mongla Port authorities that the oil tanker laden with 1.5 thousand furnace oil was coming towards the port through the By of Bengal and when it reached the place of occurrence (near Hiron Point area of the port and the Bangabadhu island) it collided with the sunken ship. As a result, a crack appeared on its front deck and water began to enter into it and ultimately its front portion went under water. Being received a SOS (Save Our Souls) a contingent of the coast guards and a contingent of Bangladesh Navy reached there by their respective ships and under their supervision a team of divers of the Navy repaired the crack. As a result, the tanker floated at the time of the high tide at the night (at 9 pm). At present the tanker is staying in the channel of the port under the supervision of the coastguards of the Western Zone deployed Mongla. It will be taken away to Khalishpur in Khulna City with the help of a tug boat (Sundarban) of Mongla Port authorities and it will be handed over to Jamuna Oil Company Ltd.
