Farewell, freshers’ reception held

A farewell to HSC examinees and freshers’ reception were held at Mahila Degree College of Tarash Upazial in Sirajganj on Saturday. Retired banker Khalilur Rahman, Chairman of the Managing Committee of the college was present in the function. The Chief Guest was Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Aziz MP. Among others, Chairman of Upazila Parishad Principal Moniruzzaman Moni, Principal of Tarash Mahila Degree College Zafar Iqbal, General Secretary of Upazila Awami League Shri Sanjit Kumar Karmakar, Vice Chairman of Upazila Parishad and President of Upazila Awami Juba League Anwar Hossain Khan, General Secretary of Mahila Awami League and Vice Chairman of Upazila Parishad Lecturer Morzina Islam, Former President of Upazila Awami League and former Chairman of Upazila Parishad Abdul Haq, General Secretary of Upazila Awami Juba League and former Vice Chairman of Upazila Parishad Farhad Ali Bidyut, Talum UP Chairman Abbas-uz-Zaman and Saguna UP Chairman Abdullah Baki were present in the programme.
However, when there was pleasure elsewhere, a tragic accident claimed the life of a motorcyclist. It occurred when a truck hit him at Tarash in Sirajganj. The accident took place at around 10 am on the Hatikumrul-Bonpara Highway in Mahishluti area of Tarash upazila. The deceased was identified as Mehedi Hasan, 28, son of Shahidul Islam of Saja Malchi village in Bagatipara upazila of Natore and was working in the Health Department. Hatikumrul Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Lutfar Rahman said the deceased Mehedi Hasan was on his way to Dhaka from Natore on a motorbike in the morning when he was hit by a truck in Mahishluti area and died on the spot. His body was later recovered and brought to the police station. On the other hand, two persons were injured when the vehicle lost control at Poushar Bridge in Madhainagar Union of the upazila at the same time. The injured have been identified as Hasen Ali, 45, son of Jamsher Ali of Madarjani village and Dilip Kumar, 35, of Thakur Pukur Para in Suvar village.

Workshop held on zinc paddy in Rangpur

A workshop was held in Rangpur with retailers to make zinc paddy seeds easily available. The workshop was organised in Taraganj Upazila Agriculture Office Hall Room in Rangpur on Friday. In order to ensure food and nutrition security in Rangpur, RDRS Bangladesh HarvestPlus is implementing integrated foot systems approach to build nutrition security project under Rangpur Division. The meeting was inaugurated by Deputy Director (Seed Marketing) Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC), Md. Asaduzzaman as the Chief Guest and presided over by Upazila Agriculture Officer Urmi Tabassum. Harvest Plus IFS Project Coordinator Md. Mojibar Rahman and RDRS Bangladesh Agriculture Officer Md. Fazlul Karim were present as special guests. Shahinur Islam, Agriculture Officer, RDRS Bangladesh also presented the keynote address. The speakers said that everyone should work together for the expansion of zinc rice seeds. The contribution of scientists should play the role of zinc rice seed retailers. The representative of the seed company said that they have received 3,000 metric tons of zinc paddy seeds will be marketed in the boro season.

Man arrested as wife commits suicide

A nurse working at Beanibazar Health Complex in Sylhet allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her house, next to the medical facility, Friday night.The deceased was Nabaneeta Das, 28, from Sullah upazila of Sunamganj. Her husband has been detained for questioning.
