Youth killed in road accident in Nilphamari

A youth named MasudUddin (22) was killed in a road accident on Nilphamari-Jalika Road in the Chandhathat area around noon on Thursday .The deceased was identified as MasudKachukata, son of Mominur Islam of Dharpara area of the union. Locals said Masud was killed in a face-to-face collision with CNG on the way to Nilphamari by motorcycle. Confirming the matter, traffic sergeant Zahidul Islam said the motorcyclist did not have a helmet on his head. He died of a serious head injury in the accident.
New restaurant opens in Jashore

A new restaurant named Flame On has started its journey at Munjib Sarak in Jashore town on Thursday evening. Dr Wim Heiser, country coordinator, Pum Netherlands inaugurated the restaurant as the chief guest in presence of Jashore Press Club president Jahid Hasan Tukun, Ahsan Kabir, general secretary, Saifur Rahman Saif, Jashore Correspondent, New Age, owner of the restaurant Tariq Hasan Bipul and businessman Zillur Rahman Manik.
Workshop on armyworm management at BARI

The Entomology Division of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) in collaboration with Centre for Commonwealth Agricultural Biosciences International (CABI) organised a day-long workshop on “Fall Armyworm Management in Bangladesh” at Seminar Room, Horticulture Research Centre, BARI in Gazipur yesterday. BARI Director (Support & Services) Md. Habibur Rahman Sheikh inaugurated the workshop as Chief Guest. Chief Scientific Officer and Head of the Entomology Division Dr. Debashish Sarker presided over the ceremony while Asia Regional Coordinator of CABI Dr. Malvika Chaudhary present as the guest of honor. BARI Director (Training & Communication) Dr. Md. Miaruddin and Director (Planning & Evaluation) Dr. Md. Nazirul Islam were present as special guests. Principal Scientific Officer of the Entomology Division Dr. Nirmal Kumar Datta presented the key note paper.
Valentine’s Day, Sundarbans Day celebrated

Under the joint initiative of Bagerhat Press Club and Save the Sundarban Foundation the Valntine’s Day and Sundarban Day was celebrated in Bagerhat district town in a befitting manner on Thursday. On the occasion a colourful rally that was brought out from Bagerhat Press Club premises in the morning led by Tapan Kumar Biswas, DC, Bagerhat, Pankaj Chandra Roy, SP of Bagerhat and Ahad Uddin Haidar, President of the Club paraded the main thoroughfares of the district town and ended at the same venue. It was followed by a lively discussion meeting held in the Press Club auditorium with its president Ahad Uddin Haidar in the chair. In his inaugural speech Ahad Uddin Haidar explained the need and importance of the day. Tapan Kumar Biswas, DC, Bagerhat while was addressing the meeting as the chief guest told, the world consists of both human being and nature. So, we should love both the nature and human being. If we do not behave well with the nature she takes revenge of it and consequently, we are to suffer from various natural calamities. He added, Sundarban the biggest mangrove forest of the world was not created by man. It was created naturally. It is a blessing for our country. So, we should take all possible steps to save this natural mangrove forest. Adv. Mir Shawkat Ali Badsha, former MP of Bagerhat Constituency-2 who was present in the discussion meeting as a special guest told, Sundarban is a world heritage and blessing for our country.
So.it is our moral duty to protect Sundarbans from the hands of the miscreants Pankaj Chandra Roy, Police Super of Bagerhat who was present in the discussion meeting as one of the special guests said, I love Sundarbans very much. The local people cannot understand the importance of the forest. This coastal region is cyclone inclined area and Sundarban forest protects the region from natural calamities as mother. Not only that but also it is full of natural resources and it plays an important role in the economy of the country. He also said, I am always ready to help the forest department to protect it (Sundarbans) from the hands of the miscreants who are always try to steal the forest resources, if the forest department requires.
