JP Nadda likely to replace Amit Shah as BJP chief

JP working president JP Nadda is expected to take over as the party president next week, succeeding Union Home Minister Amit Shah. According to sources, a formal announcement for the election schedule will be released soon and Nadda is likely to be elected unopposed, Times of India reported.
Nadda was appointed as the party’s working president in July 2019, as the then incumbent Amit Shah was made a Union minister of the Modi government, after BJP won 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
11 cops, 10 militants killed in Afghan clash

Eleven policemen and 10 Taliban militants were killed in clashes in Afghanistan’s northern province of Kunduz during Wednesday night, a local official said Thursday.
“Militants waged an attack with assault rifles, machine guns and rocket propelled grenades on an Afghan National Police checkpoint in Posta-i-Godam in the western edge of Khan Abad district headquarters.
Jihadists free five kidnapped aid workers in Nigeria

Islamic State-aligned jihadists have released five local aid workers abducted last month in violence-wracked northeastern Nigeria, security sources and one of those freed said Thursday. The aid workers were seized along with other passengers in two separate incidents in December when fighters from Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) disguised as soldiers intercepted vehicles on highways outside the Borno state capital of Maiduguri.
German FM flies to Libya to push peace effort

Germany’s foreign minister was flying to Libya on Thursday to meet one of the country’s rival leaders, Gen. Khalifa Hifter, in a bid to push forward troubled efforts to secure a cease-fire.
Germany will host a conference on Libya in Berlin on Sunday, bringing together many of the countries that have interests in the North African country’s civil war.
