3 arrested with gold bars in Tangail

Police in a drive arrested three alleged gold smugglers and recovered 12 gold bars worth about Taka 40 lakh from Karmokarpatti area on the Kalibari road under Mirzapur upazila of the district on Wednesday night.The arrested were Korban Ali, 65, Arif Hossain, 28, of Takibari-Chandpur village under Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur district and Habibur Rahman, 25, of Rajabari village under Sakhipur upazila in Tangail district.On a tip-off, a team of police from Mirzapur thana conducted the drive in the area and arrested them with the gold bars, said Sub-Inspector (SI) of the thana Safikul Alam.
Bus set on fire in Bogra

Miscreants set a bus on fire at Charmtha Bhaber Bazar on the Dhaka-Bogra highway in the district town on Wednesday night.Witnesses said some unidentified miscreants torched the bus parked in the area at about 10:00 pm. Informed, a firefithing unit rushed in and doused the blaze. However, no casualty was reported in the incident.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Abul Bashar confirmed the incident.
House wife tortured for dowry

A cruel husband and his sister tortured a housewife at Bejpara village under Kaliganj upazila of the district. The victim was identified as Dipika Mondol, 27 daughter of Gopi Mondol of Badolsha village under Shailkupa upazila of the district. At around eight years back Dipika was married with Sanjoy Biswas of Geanandra Biswas of Bejpara village under Kaliganj upazila. Sundarpur UP Member Alamgir Hossain told this correspondent that very often her husband and sister beat up her demanding dowry after their marriage. They pressured her to give Tk one lakh. But her mother Dipali Mondol works as a domestic help. So it is quite impossible to give a big amount dowry to her son in law. As her mother failed to offer dowry, her husband and sister beat up her indiscriminately on Tuesday night at around 10-30 pm.
Road accident kills school boy

A schoolboy was killed in a road accident in Jhalakati recently. The deceased was identified as Imam Hossain,14 a student of class eight of Chamta High School in Jhalakati and son of Zakaria in village Chamta under Jhalakati Sadar upazila. The boy who was riding motorbike to attend his grandmothers funeral. Suddenly the bike collided with a roadside tree and he was severely injured in his upper part of the body and died on the spot.
Miscreant suspect ‘lynched’ in Jessore

A suspected miscreant was lynched at Ansar Camp area of Bezpara in Jessore town early Wednesday. The dead was identified as Islam alias Dollar, 30, son of Moslem Uddin of Ashram Road in Jessore town. He was wanted in seven cases including murder, robbery and mugging and arms, said Sheikh Goni Mia, acting officer in-charge, Kotwali police station. The attending doctor declared the miscreant dead as he was rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital at 3:40 am, said sources at Jessore Medical College Hospital. Talking to New Nation, Sheikh Goni Mia, acting officer in-charge, Kotwali police station told that Dollar died in mass beating while he was trying to commit robbery at Bezpara area in Jessore town early Wednesday.
College girl commits suicide in Jessore
A college girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room at Ramkrishnapur village in Sadar upazila of Jessore district on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as Razia Khatun, 17, daughter of Golam Hossain, a resident of Ramkrishnapur village. Police said Razia’s father had been putting pressure on her for marriage for a long time.
On Tuesday night, when Razia’s father again raised the issue of her marriage she got infuriated.
Following this, Razia hanged herself with the ceiling of her room on Tuesday night.
Later, family members rescued her and whisked her off to Jessore Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries around 1:30am.
