6 injured as bus catches fire in Sylhet

At least six people, including a woman, were injured as a fire broke out on a running bus in Sylhet on Monday noon. Local residents said that a city-bound bus carrying 40 passengers from Beanibazar in Sylhet caught fire around noon when it reached Alampur at Dakshin Surma in the city.The fire occurring from the battery chamber of the bus spread around the vehicle and six of the passengers were injured as everyone tried to come out, the locals added.Station officer of Sylhet Fire Service and Civil Defence Station Iftekhar Hossain Chowdhury told that a team of fire-fighting unit rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control within several minutes, but the bus was almost damaged by the time. Three of the injured, including Jahura Begum, 40, wife of Shah Mia of Pirganj in Rangpur, were sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for treatment after rescuing them from the spot in serious condition, he added.
Companiganj BNP leader arrested
Police on Friday evening arrested BNP’s Companiganj upazila unit chief Shahabuddin. Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station said they arrested Sahabuddin for his involvement in cheque forgery. He was arrested for sabotage on December 26 last year but got out on bail, the OC added.
Supported nutrition corner introduced at Rangpur

Malnutrition among children and mother have adverse effect for child survival and long-term wellbeing. According to Child Well-being Survey 2016, 26% children under five at Rangpur City Corporation are stunted and 20% children under five are severely underweight. 37% new born are not breastfed within one hour of birth. Child nutrition situation in slum areas is worse than non-slum areas at city corporation. To improve nutrition situation, Rangpur City Corporation has opened a nutrition corner inaugurated in the afternoon today by City Mayor Md. Mostafizar Rahman in a festive occasion. UNICEF Rangpur field is supporting this nutrition corner as part of its joint urban programme with Rangpur City Corporation. This nutrition corner will provide nutrition counseling for under five children, conduct Growth Monitoring and Promotion for children, provide information on age appropriate complementary feeding and recommendations, technique of breast feeding, maternal and adolescent nutrition, infant and young child feeding, micronutrient supplementation, detect severely acute malnutrition in infant and provide referral services, provide counseling for wasted and stunted children. To mark the occasion, day-long orientation on integrating minimum package of nutrition interventions was organized for service providers from health facilities at City Corporation conference room today.
Labourer killed in road in mishap Barishal

A road transport worker was killed after another truck dashed him during unloading goods at Fariapatty area of the city on Sunday morning. The dead victim was identified as Al Amin, 35, a day labour engaged in unloading goods from a truck at Fariapatty wholesale market area of the city. Asaduzzaman, officer in charge (investigation) of Barishal Kotwali police station, quoting eyewitnesses said Al Amin while unloading goods from a truck at about 7:30 AM Sunday, another truck hit from behind of his truck crushing Al Amin under goods. He was rushed to Barishal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital and died there after 9:00AM. Then dead body of the victim sent to morgue for autopsy, said Rashedul Islam, ward master of the hospital.
Driver of the killer truck managed to flee, but helper detained by local people, police sources said.
