Workshop on child labour, domestic workers held

A day- long workshop on implementation of policy about prevention of child labour in risk prone works and protection and welfare of domestic workers was held at Barishal Circuit House on Saturday. Monnujan Sufian MP, state minister for labour and employment ministry was chief guest while Serniabad Sadik Abdullah, Barishal City Corporation Mayor, KM Ali Ajam, secretary of ministry of labour and employment, Shaheen Anam, Executive Director of Manusher Jonno Foundation, Shibnath Roy, inspector general for industries and establishments, were special guests of the programme attended by high officials of the concerned ministry and local administration. Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Yamin Chowdhury presided over the workshop. The key note on the topic was presented by Ruhul Amin, deputy secretary of labour and employment ministry. BCC mayor Serniabad Sadik Abdullah said a baseline survey about the issue was done in 2013 and so we requesting the authourities to upgrade that to find out current picture about the situation of child labour in the country.
Sheikh Kamal IT Institute to be set up
MEHERPUR: State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain here on Sunday said that the Sheikh Kamal IT Training Centre would be set up in Meherpur to accelerate the pace of digitalization. “A site has already been selected to set up an IT institute in Meherpur. The construction work will begin in the next fiscal year. It will help the young generations of Meherpur become efficient in ICT sector,” he made the comments while addressing as chief guest at the inauguration of the 33KV power line at OJOPADIKO office. Executive Engineer of Meherpur Electricity Department Abdul Aziz presided over the meeting while Deputy Commissioner Md. Ataul Goni and Police Super SM Murad Ali were present as special guests. The state minister said the government has ensured 100 percent electrification in Meherpur. Now the country is moving fast on the development highway, he said, adding that the Meherpur people no longer have to use the light of lamps. Farhad under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has found its own path of development. Now leaders around the world are following the path of development of Bangladesh, he added. Farhad said Baidyanathtala of Meherpur has been named Mujibnagar after Bangagabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. During the BNP government, people of the country have suffered a lot due to power outages. Then the power generation in the country was only 3,000 MW, and the current government has raised power generation to nearly 12,000 MW. The excavation of the second part of the Bhairab river will start very soon, reports BSS.
Traditional boat race held at Bhairab

The traditional boat race competition was held at Bhairab River at Nawapara in Abhainagar Upazila of Jashore district on Wednesday . Thousands of women and children from far-flung areas of the Bhairab river come to see the boats racing . From Taltalaghat area, the boat racing competition started. The boat racing was held on the Bhairab river in Noapara. It is financed by the Akiz City Center, a partner of the Akij Group,and organize the Municipality of Nawapara. General Secretary of the Competition Management Committee, Moinur Zahur Mukul, said that this year’s many boat participates in six competing boats from different districts and upazilas.
