Workshop on necessity of using co-compost fertilizer held

A workshop was organised by the Directorate of Agriculture Extension on the necessity and importance of using Co-compost fertilizer produced from human waste, funded by Water Aid Bangladesh on the initiative of Saidpur Municipality and SKS Foundation recently. The workshop was presided over by Md Ziaul Haque Zia, Panel Mayor of Saidpur Municipality. Md Abul Kashem Azad, Deputy Director, Agriculture Extension Nilphamari was present as the Chief Guest at the workshop. Md Azharul Islam, District Training Officer, Tangail, Department of Agriculture Extension was also present as Special Guest. Md. Sirajul Islam, Additional Deputy Director, Crop Agriculture Extension Department was also present in the program. Nazrul Islam Tapadar, Project Coordinator of SKS Foundation delivered his welcome speech, explaining the purpose of the workshop at the event. Project Officer of Water Aid Bangladesh Suman Shah also spoke in the workshop. In the workshop,. Homaira Mondal, Upazila Agriculture Officer, Saidpur, Nilphamari presented the issues of Soil Condition. Md. Azharul Islam, District Training Officer, Department of Agriculture Extension Tangail, described the experience of using compost produced from human waste. Finally, the Deputy Director, Nilphamari explained the reasons for the use of co-compost fertilizer in crop production, soil extension with the role and activities of Agricultural Extension Directorate. He also told that he will co-operate with Saidpur Municipality like Tangail, regarding co-compost fertilizer production.
Workshop on preventing preterm births held

For the first time ever in Rangpur, six day- long Learning and Sharing Workshop on preventing preterm births kicked off in RDRS, Rangpur recently. A total of 24 foreign delegates from Canada, Mali, and Ethiopia participated the event. Plan International Bangladesh organised the event as the host of Born On Time Project which is being implemented in three countries, Bangladesh, Mali, and Ethiopia by Plan International, Save the Children and World Vision respectively with support from Global Affairs Canada and Johnson & Johnson. Zakir Hossain, Additional Commissioner, Rangpur Division was present as the Chief Guest while Dr Hirombo Kumar Roy, Civil Surgeon, Rangpur chaired the inauguration session. Kyle Scott, Executive Director of LAMB, Sylvia Islam, Senior Development Advisor, Global Affairs Canada, High Commission of Canada to Bangladesh, and Debashish Saha, In -Charge- Country Director of Plan International Bangladesh, were present as the Special Guests. The first day of the weeklong workshop started with welcome speech by Debashish Saha. Marie Bettings, Programme Director, World Vision Canada shared the objectives of the workshop that is to review progress to date, share learning and challenges and action plan how to best implement learnings in the final year of the project in three countries. Ashish Kumar Bakshi, Divisional Manager of Plan International Bangladesh handed over crests to the guests.
Release of Khaleda Zia demanded

Jashore District Unit of Jatitabadi Mahila Dal, woman wing of the largest opposition party of the country, on Sunday morning formed a human chain in front of Manihar Cinema Hall demanding immediate release of the former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia. Professor Nargis Begum, convener, Jashore district unit BNP, Hasina Yousuf, Delwar Hossain Khokon and other leaders of the party took part the human chain.
