RU Sangskritik Jote protests violence during hartal, blockade

Rajshahi University Kendrio Sangskritik Jote, a biggest platform for the cultural activists of the university, yesterday protested the countrywide violence during hartal and blockade enforced by BNP-Jamaat led 20-party opposition alliance. They also stressed for the end of existing political crisis immediately and urge the all political parties in the country to take effective measures. Over a hundred activists, teachers and students of the university formed the human chain in front of central library at 11:00am. Addressing the human chain, they expressed their deep concern over the countrywide violence, killing of innocent people by setting on fire, dead lock in public life and educational institutions. They also expressed their grave fear of emergence of ‘undemocratic forces’ by taking advantages from existing crisis. They demanded to concerned authorities to keep congenial atmosphere in all educational institutions at any cost for the sake of betterment of country’s millions of students. They also demanded the concerned authorities for immediate normalcy in all walks of life otherwise the country might have to pay a huge cost for the long term. Among others, Prof Ananda Kumar Saha, a teacher of zoology department, Konica Gope, Sangskritik Jote general secretary, addressed the programme.

Blankets distributed among slum people in Sylhet

Sylhet JPKP distributed blankets among the extremely poor 200 slum households living in Toker Bazar Temuki slum in the Sylhet on Thursday afternoon. Under the programme, each of the 200 beneficiary slum families got two pieces of blanket. Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Shohidul Islam attended the ceremony and distributed the Blankets among slum dweller as the chief guest with JPKP President Shofikur Rahman in the chair. JPKP secratari Salim Ahmed Chy, Dulal Hosen, Abdur Rahman Chy. Belal Uddin, Mohiuddin, Fulnehar Begum, Dr. AM Shibuddin were present. Sylhet Bar President A K M Samiul Alam also attended the ceremony.

Biannual confce of Rabindra Sangeet Sammilon Parishad ends

The day-long 15th biannual district conference of Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammilon Parishad held in the city on Friday with call for spreading practice and philosophy of the songs of Tagore to combat cultural aggression and pollution. Nikhil Sen, senior cultural personality of the city, inaugurated the programme by hoisting national and organizational flag in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall in the morning. Later following a road-rally biannual general meeting held at the Hall. A competition of ‘Rabindra Sangeet’ held at Barisal NGO Development Network on Friday after noon on this occasion. The third session of the programme held at Ashwini Kumar Hall, was inaugurated by illuminating lamps, putting flower wraths at the portrait of Poet Tagore, giving prize and reception to the winners of the competition on the same evening. A discussion meeting and reception accorded to Akkas Hossain, noted cultural activists, for his life achievements, held in this session. Nazrul Islam Chunnu, president of the Barisal branch of JRSSP, presided over the sessions addressed by Shohidul Alam, deputy commissioner Barisal, Nikhil Sen, Kajal Ghose, Jibon Krishna Dey, Akkas Hossain, Tapankar Chakraborty, Shamima Masud Munni, Deb Dulal Guha, leaders of different socio-cultural organizations. The speakers called to to expand the practice and propagate the internal themes of the songs of Rabindranath Tagore to prevent pollution and combat aggression of bad, obscene, foreign culture.
