Rehabilitation programme on black gram in Jamalpur
JAMALPUR: As part of post-flood rehabilitation programme, Department of Agricultural of Extension (DAE) disbursed gram (Mashkalai) among farmers for cultivation in the district. The DAE office in Jamalpur sources said under the programme, 1500 small and marginal farmers were given seed and fertilizers worth around Tk 12,67,000. They said each of the farmers got five kilogram black gram seed, 10 kilogram DAP fertilizer and 5 kilogram MOP fertilizer. The office said 400 farmers in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila got black gram for cultivation of the seasonal crop. Besides 300 farmers in Sarishabari, 200 farmers in Madarganj, 250 farmers in Islampur, 170 farmers in Dewanganj, 80 farmers in Bakshiganj and 100 farmers in Melandaha got same amount of black gram. Training Officer of DAE Md Hazral Ali said seeds and other agri-inputs including fertilizer were distributed among the farmers, reports BSS.
Road accident kills schoolboy in Thakurgaon
THAKURGAON: A schoolboy was killed as a bus hit him in Soilapukur area on Baliadangi-Nekmarod Road under Baliadangi upazila of the district recently. The deceased was identified as Sabbir Hossain, 11, a resident in Chagoldangi area of the upazila. Police said the accident occurred around 8.30am at Soilapukur on Baliadangi-Nekmarod Road when Sabbir was returning home by riding a bicycle. He was admitted to Baliadangi Upazila Health Complex and shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital later. But he died on the way to the hospital. Officer-in-Charge of Baliadangi Thana Mosaberul Haque confirmed. Police seized the bus, reports BSS.
Yaba recovered in C’nawabganj
CHAPAINAWABGANJ : Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 4,000 Yaba tablets and 130 bottles of Phensidyl in two separate drives early this morning. Commanding Officer (CO) of 53 battalion of BGB Lieutenant Colonnel Md.Mahbubur Rahman Khan said, acting on secret information, a team of BGB from Monakasha border outpost (BOP) conducted an anti-drug drive at frontier Gangarampur village under Durlavpur union of Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district around 5:30am and recovered 130 bottles of Phensidyl in an abandoned condition. In another team of BGB from Wahedpur BOP conducted a drive at Shialpara under Panka union of Shibganj upazila of the district around 9:30am and recovered 4,000 Yaba tablets. But none could be arrested in the aforesaid drives, reports BSS.
Schoolboy electrocuted in Joypurhat
JOYPURHAT: A schoolboy died after being electrocuted at Shahapur village in Sadar upazila on Snday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Nayeem Hossain, 14, hailed from the village. He was a class 8 student at Shahapur High School. Joypurhat Thana police said Nayeem electrocuted at their house thisafternoon. He was brought to district Adhunik Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead, repors BSS.
Fruit Fair begins in Khulna
KHULNA: Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Fultala upazila office in the district launched a programme of “Fruit Fair 2019” on Friday aiming to create mass awareness among the people for planting saplings of trees. Narayan Chandra Chanda, MP, addressed at the inaugural session of the fruit fair as the chief guest. He opened the fair through planting sapling of a tree at Bejerdanga village at Fultola upazila in the district. Narayan urged the city dwellers to extend their whole-hearted support to make the programme a total success. He laid emphasis on planting saplings of trees to supplements the efforts of the government for coping with adverse impacts of global climate change. There are huge benefits of tree plantation, others speakers said tree plantation campaign should be geared up for ensuring food security alongside safeguarding environment. Chaired by acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer Animesh Bishwas, the meeting was addressed, among others, Deputy Agriculture Officer Md. Mohosin and Upazila Agriculture Officer Rina Khatun, reports BSS.
