2 held with 7,800 pieces of Yaba

Rapid Action Battalion arrested two drug pedlars after seizure of around 8,000 pieces of Yaba tablets from them in Sylhet recently. The arrested were Abdus Salam, 54, a resident of Mantoil village at Jakiganj upazila in the district, and Ali Ahmad, 30, of Jamdar village of the same upazila, the RAB said. RAB-9 media officer Md Moniruzzaman told that acting on a tip-off, the battalion members conducted a raid at Burhanpur village at the Jakiganj upazila at around 8:30pm on Thursday and arrested the two men there in possession of 7,800 pieces Yaba. He said the arrested persons and the recovered yaba tablets were handed over to the Jakiganj police at night. Jakiganj police officer-in-charge Meer Md Abdul Naser told on Friday that the arrested were produced before a judicial magistrate in the noon after filing a case. ‘The court ordered sending them to jail,’ the police officer said.
Holy Ashura observed in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: The holy Ashura, marking the tragic 10th day of Muharram, was observed here on Tuesday with due religious fervor and zealas elsewhere in the country. Different religious organisations, including Islamic Foundation and Bangladesh Ahle Hadith Bayte Foundation, observed the day through various programmes. The Shia community people brought out a procession in the city from Shaheb Bazar area that paraded the main streets of the city. Besides, several processions were brought out from city’s different areas including, Dargapara, Seroil and Upashahar. Other programmes of the day included Quran Khwani, Milad Mahfil and fasting. Islamic Foundation organised a discussion on ‘Importance of Holy Ashura in Preserving Peace and Order in Society’ at its divisional office. Thousands of musallis after Johr prayers offered special munajats seeking divine blessings and eternal peace of departed souls particularly their near and dear ones, continued peace, progress, and prosperity of the country and as well as greater welfare of the Muslim Ummah, reports BSS.
Minor girl killed in Fakirhat road mishap

A minor girl was killed when a van rickshaw was collided head on with a passenger bus on Khuln-Bagerhat Highway in front of Tripti Filling Station under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district on Tuesday at noon. The minor girl was identified as Maria Aktar (8), daughter of one Karim Shaikh of village Jaria-Maitkumra under the same Upazila. It is learnt from the police and the locals that at the noon father Karim Shaik (40) was going somewhere along with his wife Ayesha Begum (35) and daughter Mria Aktar (8) by the van towards Bagerhat and when the van that was being driven by Karim Shaikh himself reached the place of occurrence it was collided head on with the killer passenger bus that was coming from the opposite direction. As a result, all the 3 of the van were seriously injured. They were recovered by the locals and sent them to Khulna Medical College Hospital. But daughter Mira Aktar succumbed to her injuries on her way to the Hospital.
