JMB activist arrested in Madaripur

Unit-8 of Rapid Action Battalion arrested Mufti Ibrahim Khalilullah, 32, working as a carpenter, from Khanakandi under Shibchar upazila of Madaripur, as an activist of propagation unit of militant Jamaatul Mujahidin Bangladesh (JMB). Raisuddin, additional superintendent of police and spokesman of RAB-8, issuing a press release on Saturday noon, added that arrested Ibrahim Khalilullah during interrogation confessed that he worked as an Imam of local Panhchar mosque, carpenter and cotton trader at Dhaka and Narayanganj. In 2009 during his student life he came in touch of militant fundamentalist activists. Under cover of his profession as propagation and motivation activist he visited and worked different areas of the country including Sylhet, Chattogram, Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna and Satkhira. On basis of tipoff on early Saturday RAB operating drive arrested Ibrahim from Shibchar of Madaripur district. After completing interrogation to find out associates, he would be handed over to police lodging a case, RAB-8 sources said.
View exchange meet with professionals held in K’ganj

Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Kishoreganj District Unit arranged an exchange views meeting with professionals at its office room on Friday evening. Comrade Rhuin Hossion Prince, Secretariat member of central committee attended as chief guest while district President Comrade Nazrul Islam in the chair. It was addressed among others BSD District convener Adv Shafiqul Islam, Nazurl Islam, senior journalist Subir Basak, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito, journalist Saifuddin Ahamed Lenin, Adv Enamul Haque, Shafiq Adnan, Trade Union leader Abdur Rahman, District Press Club Secretary Ashraful Islam and Dr. Enamul Haque Idris.
Seminar on study in Japan held in SUST

The Embassy of Japan and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on Tuesday jointly organised a seminar on higher study in Japan. The seminar, ‘Study in Japan Seminar 2019’, provided useful information on the opportunities of higher education in Japan, including the Japanese government scholarship, study and life in Japan as well as its advantages and possible career perspectives afterwards. Two professors of SUST who received their doctoral degrees from Japanese universities spoke about their study experiences in Japan. Around 150 students of SUST participated in the seminar held in Sylhet, said the Japanese Embassy in Dhaka. Over the last five decades, Japan has been providing overnment scholarship to more than 4,000 Bangladeshis, the Embassy said. In 2018 alone, more than 120 Bangladeshi students newly received this government-funded scholarship and are now studying in Japan on various academic fields. The scholarship application opens twice a year in May (Embassy recommendation) and October (University recommendation).
IBBL Sylhet zone distributes relief among flood-hit people
The Sylhet zone of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL) recently distributed relief materials among 10,000 families of flood affected area of Sylhet. Syed Tariquzzaman, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank of Sylhet office distributed the relief as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony in Sunamganj. Muhammad Sayeed Ullah, Executive Vice President and Head of Sylhet zone was present as special guest in the programme presided over by Kaiser Ahmed, head of Sunamgonj branch. Rice, onion, potato, sugar and salt were distributed among the flood victims in Sylhet, Habiganj and Moulvibazar districts.
