Cable operator killed in accident

Tareq Uddin Aktar, 50, director of cable network firm Eco Channel and son of late Farid Uddin of Shantibag in Chapainawabganj town was killed in a road mishap at Atahar under Jhilim union in Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila on the Chapainawabganj- Amnura road on Sunday night. Locals and his family sources said, he was returning to Chapainawabganj from Amnura by a motorcycle. Suddenly a bhutbhuti coming from the opposite direction hit his motor cycle head on injuring him seriously at Atahar at around 5-30 pm.He was rushed to the Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to injuries under treatment at around 7 pm.
Wheel chair, while cane distributed

A wheel chair, hearing aid, white cane and blankets distribution ceremony organised by Social Welfare Ministry and National Foundation for Development of the disabled persons was held at deputy commissioner office auditorium on Wednesday. Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Shahidul Islam presided over the function while DC Farid Ahmed was present as the Chief Guest at the ceremony. Deputy Director of Social Service Department Nazmun Nahar, district woman affairs officer Shamima Akhter Banu also spoke on the occasion among others. A total of 96 wheel chairs, 30 hearing aid, 20 white cane and 96 blankets were distributed among the disabled persons at the ceremony.
School boy injured by BSF firing in Kurigram

A primary school boy at Balatari frontier under Phulbari upazila of the district injured by rubber bullet by Indian border security force (BSF) Saturday. The injured was identified as Seam, 7, son of Shahidul Islam of Balatari village of Naodanga union under Phulbari upazila and a student of class two of Balatari Government Primary School. Abdul Matin, Company Commander of Shimulbari BGB Company under 45 battalion in Kurigram, said a group of BSF members of Karola camp under Cooch Bihar district entered Bangladesh territory (Balatari village) crossing Indian barbed wire near border pillar no S-2/931 at 9:00 am on the day and fired rubber bullets to Seam’s family. Seam received bullet injury on his forehead while he along with his family members was warming themselves firing straw to protect them from cold in the morning. After being fired, the members fled away from the spot. The Company Commander Abdul Matin said a flag meeting was held near border pillar no S-1/932 at 12:05 pm on the day while a protest letter was sent to the nearest BSF camp under Cooch Bihar district after firing.
Smuggled goods seized in Joypurhat
JOYPURHAT: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)-3, in several anti-smuggling drives, seized a huge quantity of smuggled Indian goods worth about Taka over 24 lakh from different areas of the districton Saturday night. The BGB team also arrested alleged smuggler Asad, 32, inhabitant of Banail village under Shibganj upazila in Bogra district. The seized goods are: Indian phensidyl, Bear, fruits, species, shares, different types of winter clothes, imitation ornaments and others Indian illegal goods the BGB-3 sources said.The seized goods handed over to the Hilly Customs Authorities, reports BSS.
