4 injured in Fakirhat road mishap

Four persons were injured and 2 cows were killed on the spot when a pickup and an oil tanker collided head-on on Khulna-Mawa Highway at Faltita under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district on Sunday afternoon. 3 of the injured persons are in precarious condition. Police and the locals said that in the afternoon (at about 2-30 pm) a pickup laden with cows was going from Khulna to Mollahat and the oil tanker was going to Rupsa (Khulna) and when the reached the place of occurrence they collided head on. As a result no body was killed. But 4 persons were injured, 3 seriously and 2 cows were killed on the spot. The injured persons are cattle traders (boarded on the pickup) are Lyton (45) of village Kartikdia under Sadar Upazila in Bagerhat district, Moktar Hossain (55) and Jagrul Alam (55) of village Attaki under Fakirhat Upazila in the district. At that time a motor cyclist named Ramprosad Mandol (27) who was passing the area was also injured. He hails from Koira Upazila in Khulna district. Being informed of the matter police of Fakirhat Model PS and Katakhali Highway PS visited the place of occurrence and brought the situation under control.

Three held with 13,000 Yaba tablets in Sylhet

Rapid Action Battalion arrested three people and seized around 13,000 pieces of contraband Yaba tablet in two separate drives in Sylhet on Tuesday. The arrested were identified as Masum Ahmed Laskar, 35, son of Abdus Shukur of Charigram in Jakiganj of Sylhet, Abdul Aziz, 18, son of late Irshad Ali of Shahjalalpur, and Md Abdullah, 40, son of late Mubashwir of village Balla in Jakiganj, the RAB said. On-duty officer of the RAB 9 media wing said that a team of the battalion led by its assistant director (media) Md Moniruzzaman conducted a drive at Shrirampr bypass in the city and arrested Masum after seizing 11,000 pieces Yaba tablet and Tk 10,550 in cash. Another team of the battalion led by its deputy commandant Md Shawkatul Monayem conducted a drive at Akhalia in the city at and arrested Aziz and Abdullah at the the main entrance of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology and seized 1,980 pieces of Yaba tablet and Tk 36,500 in cash from them. RAB media wing officer Nur Alam told that they were preparing to hand the arrested drug peddlers over to the respective police stations.

Woman ‘commits suicide’ in Benapole

A woman here on Monday allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself with ceiling fan in her house in Lotadighi village. The deceased was identified as Sharmin Akhter, 20, wife of Aktarul Islam of the village. Sub-inspector of Benapole port Police Station HM Latif said the family members of the deceased spotted the body which was ganging with a ceiling fan in her bedroom in the morning and informed police.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Jashore General Hospital for autopsy, he said. The cause of her death will be clear after getting the post-mortem report, he added.

Indian goods worth Tk 1 cr recovered in Benapole

Border Guard Bangladesh(BGB) personnel seized huge quantity of Indian sarees, three pieces, medicine, imitation jewelleries and phensidyl worth Tk 1 cr 5 thousand from Gatipara and Putkhali border area in Benapole on Friday night.
But they could not arrest any smugglers at the time. Lt Col Salim Reja , Commanding Officer, 49 Border Guard Battalion said on a tipped off the BGB men seized Huge indian saree, Three pics, Medicine, imitation jewelary worth Tk. 1 . 5 cr thousand. The smugglers fled the scene after seeing the presence of the BGB. The seized goods deposit to Benapole customs god won. A case was filed in this connection.
