Indian goods worth Tk 1 cr recovered in Benapole

Border Guard Bangladesh(BGB) personnel seized huge quantity of Indian sarees, three pieces, medicine, imitation jewelleries and phensidyl worth Tk 1 cr 5 thousand from Gatipara and Putkhali border area in Benapole on Friday night. But they could not arrest any smugglers at the time. Lt Col Salim Reja , Commanding Officer, 49 Border Guard Battalion said on a tipped off the BGB men seized Huge indian saree, Three pics, Medicine, imitation jewelary worth Tk. 1 . 5 cr thousand. The smugglers fled the scene after seeing the presence of the BGB. The seized goods deposit to Benapole customs god won. A case was filed in this connection.
One held with Yaba tablets in Rangpur
RANGPUR : Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-13) arrested an alleged drug trader with 745 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets from Khordo Bhutchhara Majhpara area in Kawnia upazila in the district Friday evening. “On a tip-off, an operational team of the crime prevention special company of RAB-13 conducted a sudden raid there, seized the Yaba tablets and arrested the drug trader,” a press release of RAB-13 said yesterday. The arrested person was identified as Md. Asadul Islam, 26, son of Tazul Islam of Khordo Bhutchhara Majhpara in Kawnia upazila. The elite force also seized one mobile phone set, two SIM cards and one memory card from the possession of the drug trader. After filing a case in this connection against the arrested person, the elite force handed him over to Kawnia Thana police, the release added.
DNF starts activities visiting shrines of Shahjalal, Shah Paran

Newly-formed political alliance Democratic Nationalist Front started its activities through visiting the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) and Hazrat Shah Paran (R) in Sylhet city on Sunday. The alliance leaders held a press conference at Sylhet Press Club later, in the afternoon, to make announcement of formal beginning of their activities. The front leaders in that programme told that the DNF has been formed in participation of 9 parties, including Bangladesh Peoples Party, Bangladesh Ganatantrik Andolan, Jatiya Swadhinata Party, Islamic Liberal Party, Jatiya Ganatantrik League, NAP-Bhasani, Bangladesh Conservative Party, Jatiya Unnyan Party and Bangladesh Ideal Party. The DNF spokesperson and Bangladesh Ganatantrik Andolan chairman ARM Zafrullah Chowdhury read out a written statement before the journalists on behalf of the front. Introducing the objectives of the newly political front, Zafrullah mentioned that the countrymen have lost their interest in participating in elections for various reasons.
Accused of road accident sent to Gazipur Juvenile Delinquent Centre

The two teen-ager students, (both in class viii at Hasan Ali Govt High School) , both accused in a recent road accident case that killed a shopkeeper Abdul Jalil Patwary (54) when he was run over by their motorbike , they were driving recklessly, were sent back to Chandpur Sadar Model Thana from a Chandpur court of Nari- O- Shishu when they were produced before it on Wednesday afternoon . After hearing the case and considering their tender age, the court has directed the Model Thana authority to send the accused teen aged boys to Gazipur Juvenile Delinquent Rectification Centre under care of the Model Thana. Contacted, OC Sadar Model Thana Mohammad Nasimuddin told this correspondent, ‘ the boys have already been sent to Gazipur on 25 April’.

The accused students are Nahid Hasan Masud, 14, son of Mynuddin Babul and Omar Faruque Ridoy,14, son of Mizanur Rahman, both residents of Nazirpara in the district town.

It was alleged, they both were recklessly driving a motorbike at Outer Stadium Road when they ran over Abdul Jalil Patwary, as he was walking to his rented house at New Alimpara, in the town, shutting his shop on Outer Stadium Road at 9 pm on 14 April. He suffered serious head injuries and at once AL leader Faruqe Ahmed Kakon and another man rushed him to Chandpur General Hospital. Later as his condition turned critical, he was referred to DMCH where he succumbed to his injuries after ten days, on Tuesday last.
