Merkel still hopes a Brexit solution can be found

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Tuesday she hoped for a solution to Britain’s departure from the European Union, adding that failure to break the deadlock would lead to great uncertainty.
Speaking after the British parliament on Monday failed to find a majority of its own for any alternative to Prime Minister Theresa May’s divorce deal, Merkel said a disorderly Brexit would produce an extended period of uncertainty.

Mozambique cyclone death toll up to 598

Authorities say the death toll in Mozambique from last month’s cyclone has risen to 598 while humanitarian workers race to contain a cholera outbreak in the storm’s wake.
The World Health Organization says at least 1,052 cholera cases have been reported by Mozambique’s health ministry, including one death. The acute diarrheal disease has been spreading in the hard-hit city of Beira and its half-million residents since the outbreak was declared last week.

Netanyahu to meet Putin on Thursday

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will fly to Moscow on Thursday to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Israeli leader’s office said on Tuesday.
The statement did not elaborate on the intended topics of discussion. The two leaders will meet five days before Israel’s April 9 election in which the right-wing Netanyahu faces a strong challenge from a centrist candidate.

Libya chaos leaves city residents struggling for water

Hundreds of blue pipes lay abandoned in Libya’s Zintan, leaving residents struggling to get enough water after the 2011 revolution halted their spot on the world’s largest irrigation project. “We have nothing in Zintan,” said Al-Sid Chanta, a trucker who collects water supplied from a reservoir to deliver to residents’ homes. Without the pipes in place to channel water directly to the city, he makes the trip eight times a day just to meet people’s basic needs.
