Properties worth Tk 10 lakh gutted at Rampal

Properties worth Tk 10 lakh were gutted when a dwelling house and a turkey poultry farm belonging to one Mahabbat Ali Gazi of village Ransen under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat district caught fire recently when the inmates of the house were absent from it. It is guessed that at noon the fire originated from a kitchen spread to the attached dwelling house and adjacent turkey poultry farm and went out of control within moments. On seeing the flame of fire the neighbouring people rushed to the spot and tried to extinguish the fire. But their all efforts were proved failure. Being informed of the matter a fire service unit from Bagerhat and another from Mongla EPZ area reached the place of occurrence quickly and brought the fire under control after a long fighting for more than one hour. In spite of that one dwelling house and a kitchen were completely and a turkey poultry farm including an incubator with 800 eggs was partially gutted. According to the house owner, the loss of fire is primarily estimated at Tk.10 lakh. On the other hand Sardar Masudur Rahman, Deputy Director of Bagerhat Fire Service and Civil Defence disclosed, the firemen were able to save movable properties worth Tk.20 lakh including a good number of turkey poultries after shifting them form the spot.
RU Psychology Department Students demanded reexamination

Agitating master’s students of Rajshahi University (RU) Psychology department continued demonstration again demanding to take reexamination of their one course. The students took their position in front of RU administration building for two and half an hour on Monday at around 9 am. At that time, they said that they would continue their agitation if their demand is not met immediately. They would not take part in upcoming examinations if they have not any assurance from the university authority in this regard. According to the department and its students’ sources, a number of 53 master’s students could not attend the exam of course no 502 on that day as one of their fellow students’ father had died. Earlier, on Saturday, the agitating students took their position in front of the university administration building and on Sunday, they also submitted a memorandum to the student adviser in this regard. But getting no positive response from the student adviser, they staged demonstration on Monday again in front of the university administration building. Asking Professor Dr Enamul Haque, chairman of the department said that a concrete decision will be taken urgently in an academic emergency meeting in this issue.
Brick labourer killed in Khulna

A brick field labourer Shabuddin 40 was killed while working in MS brick field at Nandan pur Singer Char under Rupsaha Upazilla on Wednesday morning. Eye witness said he fall under the mud made for brick preparation. He was shifted to KMCH where declared dead. A case has been registered in Rupsha thana.
