4 houses gutted in Chitalmari

Properties worth Tk.6 lakh were gutted when a big fire broke out in the Village Barasia within Sadar Union under Chitalmari Upazila in Bagerhat district at Thursday night, according to a delayed report received here. Anukul Sarkar, Officer-in-charge of Chitalmari PS and the locals that at the night (at about 8 pm) the fire originated from an electricity short circuit in the house of one Mostafa Shaikh of the village spread to its adjacent houses within a short time and went out of control On seeing the flame of the fire and on hearing hue and cry of the inmates the neighbouring people rushed to the spot and tried to extinguish the fire, but in vain. By this time a fire service unit of adjacent Tungipara Upazila reached the spot and brought the fire under control after a long fighting for an hour with the help of the locals. But in spite of that 4 houses including 2 dwelling houses of Mostafa Shaikh and Faizul Shaikh with their all belongings were completely burnt to ashes.
Hand-palates of freedom fighters being preserved

The District Administration has begun a programme of preserving separate imprints of hand-palates of freedom fighters of the district. Kurigram Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sultana Pervin inaugurated the programme as a daughter of Freedom Fighter in Kurigram Sadar upazila parishad auditorium on Thursday noon. while among others, Kurigram police super Mehedul Karim, Civil Surgeon Dr. Aminul Islam, Sadar UNO Amin-Al Parvez and over 350 freedom fighters of Sadar upazila were present there. The district administration expects the programme in the sadar upazila will be completed before March 26 for our independence day and the freedom fighters will be awarded on March 26 this year. There are around 714 alive freedom fighters in Sadar upazila. The Commander of Freedom fighter in Kurigram district Md.Shirajul Islam Tuku said, “Many of ours (freedom fighters) are no more, now is a last time of alive too of ours. We are proud that photos and our hand-palates as our memory are being preserved. I think this is a first initiative in our country.
12 Nepali air crash victims remembered at RRMC

The authorities of Ragib-Rabeya Medical College (RRMC) in Jalalabad on Tuesday remembered 12 Nepali students who died in an air crash at Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal in 2018. Marking the day, various programmes were chalked out at its campus on Tuesday morning. Teachers and students began the day by placing wreaths at the portrait-stone on the campus around 10 am. Later, a Remembrance Ceremony was held at the college auditorium around 11 am. A documentary based on the victim students’ lives and their photos taken during their student life were exhibited at the ceremony. Medical College Director Md Taraq Ajad, Vice-principal Prof AKM Dawad, all the departments’ heads and students, among others, were present on the occasion.
Fake ASP held in Brahmanbaria

Police arrested a fake Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) along with his two associates from Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station on Wednesday evening. The arrestees are Md. kawsar Alam, 31, son of Badshah Alam ofMojlishpur village, Fayez Mia, 35, and his younger brother Kawsar Mia, 30, son of Abdul khaleq of Darma village under Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila of the district. Officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station, Md. Ziaul Haque confirmed the matter. According to OC, the arrested Kawsar came to Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station with his two relatives at office room of the officer-in-charge at 6pm on Friday evening. He gave his identity as a senior ASP of SB and tried for his relatives to file a case. But at onestage, the OC became suspicious of his being ASP. When he was asked to prove his identity, he failed to produce his identity card before police.
