Democrats move to block foreign funding in 2020 election

With special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation reportedly wrapping up, the spotlight on Russian election interference is heating up. And one of the most contentious issues, aside from any possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, is how to prevent foreign money from influencing the 2020 election.
Democratic members of Congress, in their opening salvo after winning the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives last fall, spearheaded passage of a major bill late last week that includes provisions to thwart foreign spending in U.S. elections.

Netanyahu to face indictment

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will face a hearing after polls to defend himself against corruption allegations which have dogged his election campaign, the justice ministry said Monday.
Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit last month announced his intention to indict the premier on charges of fraud, breach of trust and bribery, following up on police recommendations.

2 Chinese pilots killed in navy jet crash

A Chinese navy fighter jet crashed during a training mission Tuesday in the southern island province of Hainan, killing both pilots, the navy said.
The crash took place in Ledong county in the mountainous and heavily forested tropical province and the cause was under investigation, the navy said on its official Twitter-like Weibo microblog.

Philippine forces kill several militants in new offensive

Philippine troops, backed by airstrikes and artillery fire, killed several militants aligned with the Islamic State group in a new offensive in the marshy heartland of the country’s south, the military said Tuesday.
Army Maj. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana said several key commanders, including a long-wanted Singaporean militant, were among the more than 100 militants who came under attack at daybreak on Monday.
