Residential art exchange program starts in Barisal

A week-long residential art exchange program participated by artists from different sectors of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh starts on Friday afternoon at historical and abandoned Lakhutia Zamindar House premises in Barisal.Visual and performing artists, painters, photographers, writers, musicians named Aditi Gupta, Jinal Patel, Sisir Thapa , Tapash Sarkar from India, Hamida Khatri from Pakistan, Tasmin Choudhury, Farhad Rahman, Fahad al Alam, Shahriar Shihab, Nazim Uddin Khan, Chandra Sukhen from Bangladesh participating at this programme to bring out some aesthetical expressions of the venue.The aim of the program is to accommodate and sustain an organic environment for the artists to fall in rhythm with the natural sphere and project their insights amongst fellow artists, ultimately creating a reverberating atmosphere to inspire further projects, explained Sadya Mizan, coordinator of the programme.
Blanket distributed in Birol, Kaharol

Birol Ipazila Parishad Mohila, Vice chairman of Mrs Firoza Begum Sona, distributed blanket among the winter-hit woman at Kazipara, Borahnagar and Halajoy village in Birol upazila in Dinajpur district on Friday morning. Blanket distribution program attend by Tazul Islam, Ex-president of Birol Press club and Atiur Rahman, Ex-sectary of Birol Press Club. Besides this a non Government Organisation Quate Joint Commeti distributed blanket among seven hundred cold-hit people at Kaharol upazila area in Dinajpur district on Thursday. Kaharol upazila Parishad Chairman Mamunur Rashid Chowdhury was present as Chief Guest. Among others vice-chairman Abdul Goni Master, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kaharol police station Prithis Kumar Roy and Kazi Mohshin Uddin were present in the programme.
2 hemp traders jailed
A mobile court in Phulbari upazila in Dinajpur on Thursday convicted two drug peddlers and sentenced them to two month rigorous imprisonment each for trading hemp. The court led by UNO and Executive Magistrate Md Moniruzzaman handed down the punishment. The convicted are Muktar Hossain (24), son of Samser Ali, in village west gouripara and Sumon Mondal (20), son of Moyej Mondal village Shalgram village in Phulbari upazila in Dinajpur. In a tipped-of the mobile court drive in the Uttar Sujapur area near Phulbari bus stand and arrested two along with hemp on Thursday said Officer-In-Charge (Investigation) of Phulbari police station Sheikh Mohammad Golam Mostafa.
Laxmipur cancer patients get govt. financial help
LAXMIPUR: Some 26 cancer patients of Lakkhipur district received Taka 50,000 each to meet their treatment cost from the Department of Social Services on Friday. Local lawmaker AKM Shahjahan Kamal handed over the cheques for the amount to the patients at a function organized by the department on the occasion of Social Service Day, reports BSS.
Kamal also distributed Taka 4.63 lakh among 50 poor people of the district. With deputy director of Department of Social Service Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by president of district unit of Awami League M. Alauddin, Organizing Secretary Ruhul Amin Master and UNO of Sadar Upazila Mohammad Azizur Rahman,

Robber injured, arrested after ‘gunfight’ in Satkhira
SATKHIRA: An alleged robber was injured in a gunfight between his cohorts and police in Palashpol area of the town early Saturday. The injured was identified as Mintu Sardar, 30, son of late Abdul Gaffar of the area. Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Golam Rahman said on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 4:00 am.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers hurled some crude bombs towards them. In retaliation, police opened fire, triggering a gunfight that left Mintu injured.
Later, police arrested him from the spot and took him to Sadar Hospital, reports UNB.

Shramik Dal leader held in Bagerhat
BAGERHAT: Police arrested Jatiyatabadi Shramik Dal’s district unit president Sardar Liakat Ali from in front of his house in VIP Mor of the town on Friday night.
Bagerhat Model Police Station officer-in-charge Azam Ali Khan said on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Sardar around 7:30 pm.
He was arrested on suspicion that he might carry out subversive activities, the OC added.
Police will produce him before a court yesterday reports UNB.
