Love proposal lands HSC examinee in jail

Love proposal on ‘World Love Day’ has landed a youth (HSC examinee) in jail for 15 days in Chandpur. The Romeo was identified as AnisurRahman -an HSC examinee of Dhodda Moazzem Hossain Degree College in Hajiganj Upazila. UNO Hajiganj office sources said, the accused Romeo Anis intercepted a school girl, Moni, 14 of class viii of a local high school and he directly proposed her his love near the bridge on the way to her school at 11 am on Thursday on the occasion of ‘World Love Day’. At this, the girl reacted sharply and an altercation occurred between Anis and the girl. At one stage, Anis reportedly slapped the girl and placed his hand on the girl’s body too. At once, the girl informed the matter to her guardians who later filed separate complaints accusing Anisur Rahman with the UNO and the local Thana for taking necessary action in this regard. Earlier Anis sent his mobile number to this girl through her class friend for talks with him but to no reply. Hajiganj UNO Boishakhi Barua later took cognizance of the matter and in a Mobile Court sentenced the youth for 15 days’ jail term in the afternoon.. Contacted, Hajiganj Thana OC Alamgir Hossain told the NewNation that on getting complaint, Sub Inspector Shuman was sent to the spot and detained the youth Anis in this connection. Later UNO and Executive Magistrate Boishakhi Barua , in a Mobile Court, jailed the youth Anisur Rahman for 15 days. The matter has become talk of the Upazila.

2 construction workers killed in Sirajganj mudslide

Two workers were killed and five others injured in a mudslide while working at the site of an under-construction building of a primary school in Sirajganj municipality area on Sunday.The deceased were identified as Belal Hossain, 62, of Charkura village, and Jelkat, 68, of the same village of Kamarkhand upazila. Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Rafiqul Islam said a group of seven workers were digging soil for the foundation work of the extended building of Dhanbandhi Govt Primary School at Dhanbabandhi. Suddenly, a chunk of mud fell on them around 3:30pm, leaving them injured. They were taken to hospital where two of them succumbed to their injuries, the OC said.

Thunderbolt kills two in Naokhali

NOAKHALI: A man and his nephew were killed as a thunderbolt hit them at Baorcourt village in Sonaimuri upazila on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Noman Hossain, 45, son of Abdul Matin and his nephew Saiful Islam, 12, son of Babul Mia of the village. Quoting locals, officer-in-charge of Sonaimuri Police Station Abdus Samad said a streak of lightning hit the duo at noon while they were watering a paddy filed at the village, leaving them dead on the spot, reports UNB.

29 held from Faridpur hotels, jailed

FARIDPUR: A mobile court here sentenced 29 people, including 13 women, to seven-day imprisonment for their alleged involvement in antisocial activities recently. The mobile court, led by Sadar upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Parvez Mallick, conducted a drive at two residential hotels — Rangdhanu and Gulshan Palace — in the district town . During the drive that last till 2:30pm, it detained 31 people from the two hotels. Later, the mobile court jailed 29 of them and sent the rest two to safe home as they were underage. The convicts were later sent to jail. Executive magistrate Parvez Mallick said such type of drive will continue to build the district town as a beautiful, clean and drug-free one, reports UNB.
