 Keraniganj brick field fined Tk 30 lakh

The Department of Environment has conducted operations on several brick field at Keraniganj. On Tuesday , the operation was conducted at Mollarhat and Jazira areas in south Keraniganj police station. After the expedition, a fine of Tk 11 lakh was paid to Molla Bricks and Co., Tk 11 lakh to Messrs MHS & Co. and Tk 8 lakh to a new bricks manufactures brick field in Jajira area with a fine of Tk 30 lakh. Executive Magistrate Kazi Tamizid Ahmed of the Department of Environment led the mobile court. During this time, he was assisted by Deputy Director of the Department of Environment Aminul Islam, Deputy Director of Dhaka District Environment Khaled Hasan, Assistant Director Mihir Lal Sarker and Md. Shariful Islam , Executive Magistrate of the Department of Environment, Kazi Tamizid Ahmed said, “We have fined three brick field owners. No illegal brick field owner will be allowed to be released. If anyone violates law, strict action will be taken against him.

3 drug peddlers arrested in Rajshahi

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-5) arrested three alleged drug peddlers along with 2.25 kg of heroin from Jahanabad village in Godagari upazila on Monday. On secret information, a team of RAB-5 conducted a drive in the area and arrested Jannatun Nesha (40), wife of Uzzal Hossain, daughter Moriom Khatun (14) and Al-Amin (24), son of Munsur Rahman, a resident of the same area, said a press release of RAB sources. RAB recovered two mobile phone sets, three SIM cards and one memory card from the detainees. A case was filed with Godagari police station under Narcotics Control Act in this connection, the release also added.

3 houses burnt in Sylhet

Three houses were burnt in a fire in Akhalia area in Sylhet city on Sunday morning. Local people said that the fire broke out at the kitchen of a tin-shed building in the area at about 10:30am and engulfed the adjoining houses. Sylhet Fire Service and Civil Defence on-duty officer Faizur Rahman told that they went to the spot at about 11:00am being informed by local people and brought the fire under control after an hour. According to the primary assessment, the extent of loss caused by the fire was estimated at Tk 15lakh, the fire service officer said. One of the house owners, Manu Miah, claimed that the extent of loss would be more than Tk 50lakh.
