Woman commits suicide in Jhenidah

A young woman commits suicide at Baghadanga village under Moheshpur upazila of the district on Thursday night. After rape she has committed suicide. The victim is Alpona Khatun 19 daughter of Sultan Ahmed of Baghadanga village of the upazila.Victim’s uncle Alomgir Hossain said, his niece had been divorced from her husband. Later, she fell in love with Mongla Ali a neighbour of her house. As the affair leaked out, Alpona proposed Mongla to marry her. But Mongla refused her proposal. On Thursday night Mongla called her from her house and raped her several times. Later, he fed her something poison. On Thursday night at around 12-30 am she died. A case will be filed with Moheshpur police station. Officer in charge (OC) Liakot Hossain of Moheshpur police station said, he does not know whether Alpona has been raped or not. But he has heard that she has committed suicide. They have recovered the body and sent it to Jhenidah sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy. An UD case has been filed with the police station.  
Husband commits suicide after killing wife in Jessore

A man committed suicide after killing his second wife at Kasta village under Kesabpur upazila in Jessore early Saturday. The dead were identified as Abdul Wahab and his wife Aklima Khatun of Kasta village under Keshabpur upazila in Jessore. Police and locals said Abdul Wahab committing suicide hanging from a tree as he heard the news of death of his wife on way to Khulna Medical College Hospital early Saturday. He earlier wounded his second wife with sharp weapon following family feud. Abdul Jalil, officer in-charge, Keshabpur police station confirming the information told journalists that the body of Abdul Wahab was rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Body recovered from Chitalmari

Dead body of a young man (32) was recovered from a paddy filed in the village Hariaghop under Chitalmari Upazila in the district on Friday in the morning. His hands and legs were tied with rope and his neck was rounded with a woolen muffler. It is guessed that the man was, perhaps, strangulated to death. It is learnt from the police and the locals that in the morning some local people found the dead body in the field and informed the police of the matter. Police of Chitalmari PS rushed to the spot, recovered the dead body and sent the same to the morgue for autopsy. According to a National ID card found in his possession, his name is Tahidul Islam (32).
25 injured in Sunamganj clash

At least 25 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers at Jahanpur village in Dhakkhin Sunamganj upazila here on Friday over land dispute. The clash took place around 11:00am. Seriously injured 4 brothers Nazim, 45, Nizam, 40, Jasim 35 and Joyenuddin 30 were admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital while 21 others were admitted to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital. Abdul Mukit Chowdhury, sub-inspector of Dakkhin Sunamganj said Nazimuddin had a long standing dispute over land with Abdul Quddus of the same village. Following the dispute, the supporters of Nazim and Quddus locked in an altercation at a nearby Haor, leaving 25 people injured. The SI said police brought the situation under control.
4 youths jailed over sexual harassment
LAXMIPUR: A mobile court on Saturday jailed four young men to one month’s imprisonment each for sexually harassing schoolgirls during a Scout rally at a school in the district town. The convicts were identified as Jobayer Hossain, son of Jahirul Islam Bhuiyan, Minhaj Alam Shakib, son of Alamgir Hossain Ratan, Ziaul arim, son of Rafiq Ahmed, and Farhad, son of Kamal Uddin. Police said local people caught the four young men while they were teasing the schoolgirls of Adarsha Samad High School during a Scout rally on the school ground in the afternoon. Later, they were handed over to Sadar Police Station. Police produced the arrestees before a mobile court at night. The obile court led by Executive Magistrate Azizur Rahman pronounced the verdict instantly, reports UNB.
2 crude bombs recovered in Sirajganj

Police recovered two crude bombs from Bahirgola area in the district town on Saturday. Habibul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said local people found two crude bombs beside the power office of the town in the afternoon and informed police. Later, police rushed to the spot and recovered the crude bombs. A case was filed in this connection.
