NATAB anti-drug discussion held

National Anti-Tuberculosis Association of Bangladesh (NATAB) arranged a discussion on Anti-Drug and smoking held at local hotel on Thursday evening. Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarowar Morshed Chowhdury and Police Super Md. Mashrukur Rahman Khaled BPM were attended as chief and special guest while NATAB District President Adv Saiful Hoque Mollah Dulu in the chair. It was addresed among others by Civil Surgeon Dr. Habibur Rahman, ADC (Gen) & D.S Torafder Md. Akhter Jamil, BMA District Secretary Dr. Abdul Wahab Badal, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito, Mohila Parished President Adv Maya Bhowmic, Journalist Ashraful Islam and NATAB Program Manager Md. Firoj Ahmed.
Monu chairman passes away

Sheikh Sirajul Islam alias Monu, chairman of two consecutive time of Darkhar union parishad under Akhaura upazila of Brahmanbaria district breathed his last at 8:15am on Saturday at Reliance General & Renal Hospital Limited at Green road in Dhaka city. He had been suffering from lung cancer for few days. He left behind wife, two sons and only daughter and host of relatives and well wishers before his death. He was also a renowned social worker and philanthropist and was widely popular man in the area. A pall of gloom came down among all walks of people after his death. He was buried at the family graveyard at Ranikhar village after the Janaza where thousands of people attended to it.
70 maunds jatka seized in Bhola
BHOLA: Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard in a drive seized 70 maunds of jatka from the Tentulia River at Bhelumia in Sadar upazila on Friday morning. Tipped-off, a team from South Zone Coast Guard conducted a drive in the river and seized the hilsa fries from a trawler, said Lieutenant Yanur of the zone. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the trawler inmates fled the scene. Later, the seized jatka were distributed among orphans and destitute people, reports UNB.
First ever Pigeon Mela held in Chandpur

Amid much enthusiasm, ‘Pigeon Mela -2019′, first of its kind, was held on the green premises at Shatnol Parjaton Centre beside the Meghna river at Matlab Uttar Upazila on Friday . A total of over 100 pigeon lovers from various places of the country participated in this day- long mela with their pigeons. In the morning Matlab Uttar , UNO Sharmin Akter formally inaugurated the mela and distributed prizes in the afternoon as chief guest. In the mela, picnic was also held. Various sports competitions were held. Of them, most attractive was the pigeon race. A pigeon was set free some twenty kilometres away and then it flew to this venue. The pigeon which came to the venue first was adjudged as the first. In this way, 2nd and 3rd winners were selected. In the afternoon, prize giving ceremony was held at the same venue with Matlab Pigeon Club President Shamim Khan in the chair. National Pets Lovers’ Society Chief Admin Jahirul Islam Polash, Comilla Pigeon Club President Helaluddin, among others spoke. In the afternoon, UNO Sharmin Akter gave away prizes among the winners of various events. Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, she lauded the pigeon- lovers for rearing , nursing and caring pigeons as they are the symbols of peace. She also appreciated the organisers of this mela for organising this good gathering of pigeon- lovers at a remote place like – Matlab Uttar. She said, pigeon caring and rearing can divert our youths to good works as it is also a good source of income..She termed it ‘as a hobby of good taste’ and it can remove unemployment problem too. It can also divert our youths from taking drugs which destroy a family. But pigeon caring and nursing can fetch us enough money besides giving us immense pleasure, amusement and recreation.
