Two held with Yaba in Sylhet

Police have arrested two drug traders along with contraband Yaba tablets from Lauai Bangabir Road at South Surma in Sylhet Road on Saturday night. The detainees are Md Zakir Hossain, son of Sadek Ali of Ullashwar of Chandpur’s Shahrasti and Iman Ahmed Russell, son of Sirajul Islam of Gotatikar BSCIC industrial area in Sylhet. SMP ADC (Media) Md Jedan Al Musa said that Metropolitan Detective Police conducted a drive on Bangabir Road at night. At the time, two drug traders were arrested with 21 pieces of Yaba tablets. A case under the Narcotics Control Act will be filed against them.
Arms dealer arrested in Sirajganj

District Detective Police arrested a notorious arms dealer named Faridul Islam (28), along with a domestic weapon and three round fresh bullets from Belkuchi upazila in Sirajganj on Saturday night. He was arrested in a drive from Dhulchar area of the upazila. Detained Faridul is the son of Saiful Islam of Kalyanpur area of Dhukuriyabera Union. Officer-in-Charge of Sirajganj DB, Wahiduzzaman confirmed the matter to The New Nation. OC Wahiduzzaman said that on the basis of secret information Faridul was arrested from Dhulerchar area with a bag. Then a locally made shooter gun and three rounds of fresh bullets were recovered from that bag. OC further said Farid is a notorious arms dealer in Sirajganj; he also involved in stolen motorcycle business. At present, there are 13 cases pending in the court against him, including two arms case. BGB recovers pistol, 7 bullets in Chapainawabganj

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered a pistol loaded with seven bullets from bordering Tarapur in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district recently . Based on secret information, a BGB team, led by deputy commanding officer of BGB battalion-53 Major Md Ekhlasur Rahman, conducted a drive at Tarapur field, 150 yards off the border pillar No 4/5-1S, around 4:45 am, said public relations officer of the BGB headquarters Mohsin Reza.
During the drive, the BGB men saw a man with a bag approaching towards Bangladesh from India crossing the border illegally.Sensing the presence of the paramilitary force members, the man fled towards India leaving the bag behind, he said quoting Ekhlasur Rahman. Searching the bag, the BGB men found a 7.65mm US-made pistol along with a magazine and seven bullets, Reza said.
Microbus kills elderly man in Brahmanbaria
BRAHMANBARIA: An elderly man was killed as a microbus crushed him in Kasba upazila of the district on Friday.The deceased was identified as Johirul Haque Bhuiyan, 70, hailed from Syeedabad area in the upazila.Local people said the accident took place this noon in Tin Lakh Peer area on Cumillah-Sylhet Highway. He died on the way to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital. Officer-in-Charge of Kasba Thana Abdul Malek said they seized the microbus, reports BSS.
Fish farm looted in Morrelganj

Fish of different spices worth Tk2 lakh was looted by some alleged miscreants from a fish farm belonging to one Shahidul Sheikh of village Bhasandal under Morrelganj Upazila after pouring poison in it recently. Another report states that fish worth Tk several lakh was also looted from a fish farm belonging to one Jabbar Mridha of the same village after pouring poison in the farm. When contacted KM Azizul Islam Officer-in-charge of Morrelganj PS told the newsmen, I was not informed of the matter. Legal action will be taken if any written complaint is lodged with the PS in this connection.
