Elderly man dies in Habiganj road mishap

An elderly man was killed as a passenger bus hit him at Madhobpur upazila in Habiganj districtrecently. The man was identified as Harendro Das, 70, from Bula village of the upazila. Police said the accident took place at around 11:00 am in Andiora area on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway. Harendra received critical injuries after the bus ran over him. He was brought to Madhobpur Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctor declared him dead.

57 rail passengers fined for travelling sans ticket

 Railway authorities fined a total of 57 passengers for travelling without tickets in Rajshahi to Dhaka railway route. Fuad Hossain Ananda, a divisional personnel officer of the western railway, said railway authorities conducted a drive at Dhumketu Express and fined 57 passengers for travelling without tickets and realised Tk 9,500 from them. The drive will be continued in future, the divisional officer also added.

RU EEE Deptt formed human chain

Students of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department (EEE) of Rajshahi University recently formed a human chain as they are not agree to convert their department into the Applied Physics and Electronic Engineering Department (APEE). They hold the human chain programme in front of the university’s Central Library at around 12 pm. During the programme, the students said that if the two departments are being combined, they will fall into different problems. They will have not to get the lab facilities mainly, said the students. Noted, students of Applied Physics and Electronic Department demanded to convert their Department into Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department and holds different programmme rejecting all of classes and examinations from November 11. On the other hand the students of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department also hold different programme from November 20 following the issue as they are not agree to convert their Department into the Applied Physics and Electronic Engineering Department.

Human chain formed in Bagerhat

Under the auspices of SANAC (Sachetan Nagarik Committee), Bagerhat with the assistance of TIB (Transparency International Bangladesh) a human chain was formed in front of Bagerhat Press Club on Thursday in the morning for demanding the maintenance of transparency, accountability and participation of the people in the distribution of the fund given by the developed countries to the affected countries for the climate change with Prof. ABM. Mosharraf Husain, Vice President (in charge of the president) of SANAC, Bagerhat in the chair. Babul Sardar, convener of the sub-committee for climate of SANAC explained the need and importance of forming the human chain in his address of welcome. The human chain was addressed among others by educationist Prof Mozaffar Hossain, SANAC members Saif Uddin, Shaikh MujiborRahman, Rehana Parveen Renu, SAJAN member FM Mostafizul Haq, SAJAN member and NGO Rupantar-representative Rijia Begum, journalist Shaikh Azmal Hossain and YES members. All the speakers emphasized on the topic.
