Cultural show styled as Shilper Shahor Barishal held

A cultural show styled as ‘Shilper Shaor Barishal ‘held on Sunday evening at Bangobandhu Udyan of the city to promote mass contact with native cultural activities. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy organized the programme planned and created by its director general Liakat Ali Lucky. Hasanur Rashid Maksud, district cultural officer, presided over the programme. Among others SM Ajiar Rahman, deputy commissioner, as chief guest and Kajal Ghosh, president Barishal Sangskritik Sangothan Samannoy Parishad, Mozammel Huq Chowdhury, Russel Iqbal, administrative magistrates, as special guests attended the programme. The outdoor and open to all programme was planned for creating mass contact of cultural activities with the local people out of the closed auditorium or restricted places, the district cultural officer said. In the programme recitation of poems, folk songs, dances and other cultural activities with regional flavor and traditions were performed by more than forty local performers.
Valuables worth Tk 10 lakh gutted in Chandpur

Three dwelling houses were gutted by a devastating fire at a village in Faridganj Upazila on Tuesday evening. As a result, goods and valuables worth about Tk 10 lakh were destroyed-claimed the affected people. Locals said, the fire originated from sparking in the electric pillar of Polli biddut at 7.30 pm and then it spread engulfing the three adjacent dwelling houses of Kalu Bepari, Kalam Bepari and Mizan Bepari at Muslim Bepari bari at Shoshairchar village in Balithuba union under Faridganj Upazila. The houses were burnt to ashes. The local people worked hard and then doused the fire after frantic efforts for one hour. Some ten people got fire injuries while extinguishing the flames. They were treated at the local health complex and clinics. It may be mentioned here that there is no fire station in Faridganj and Haimchar Upazilas, though people and traders have long been demanding for it.
Man held with arms in Benapole  
BENAPOLE: Police arrested a suspected criminal along with a one shooter gun and one round bullet from Konyadah village in Sharsha upazila early Tuesday. The arrestee was identified as Babar Ali, 35, son of Dukhe Morol of the village. M Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sharsha Police Station, said on secret information, a team of police conducted a drive in the village and arrested Babar. After searching his body, police recovered the arms. Later, a case was filed in this connection, he added, reports UNB.
48th founding anniv of IDEB observed in C’nawabganj

The 48th founding anniversary of the Institute of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB) Mass Engineering Day, 2018 were observed in a befitting manner in Chapainawabganj on Thursday. Chapainawabganj district unit of the organization arranged a colourful procession and a rally to mark the day. Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Mayor of Chapainawabganj Municipality inaugurated the procession as chief guest. Starting from the Chapainawabganj municipality premises the procession paraded the main roads of the town and ended at the office of the Public Works Department (PWD) where a rally was held. Presided over by the Convener of the Chapainawabganj district unit of IDEB engineer Khurshed Alom, the rally was addressed by the executive engineer of Chapainawabganj municipality Md. Sadequl Islam and others. Executive engineer of PDB-2, Md. Ainal haq, Assistant Engineer of Chapainawabganj municipality Md. Rokonuzzaman, Sub- assistant engineer of PWD Salah Uddin Parvej, Satyajit Roy and formar Presided of Chapainawabganj district unit of IDEB Mahbubur Rahman were present.
