BGB detains youth with Tk 13 lakh, Indian medicines

Border Guard Bangladesh personnel, in separate raids, detained a youth along with Tk 12,99,000 and a motorbike worth Tk 1,60,000 as soon as he entered into Bangladesh territory on Tuesday and seized Indian medicines worth Tk 58,00,000 . The money was laundered, said Imran Ullah Sarker, director, 21 Border Guard Battalion and Ariful Hoque, commanding officer, 49 Border Guard Battalion in two separate press releases. The BGB said Roni Ahmed, 35, of Putkhali village under Benapole port police station was detained by 21 Border Guard Battalion from Khalshi under Benapole port police station at around 10:30 am on Tuesday. The BGB seized Tk 12, 99,000 and a motorbike from him. The 49 Border Guard Battalion, in separate raids, seized Indian medicines worth Tk 58,00,000 from Benapole frontier on the same day. Two separate cases were lodged with Benapole port police station and the detained was handed over to the police.
One held with 8,000 Yaba tablets in Syedpur
NILPHAMARI : Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-13) arrested an alleged drug trader with 8,000 pieces of smuggled Yaba tablets from Syedpur upazila town in Nilphamari on Monday afternoon, a press release said here on Monday nght. The arrested person is Babu Roy, 40, son of late Ashotsoh Roy of Natun Bazar area in Parbotipur upazila town of nearby Dinajpur district. The elite force conducted a raid at a place on the Shaheed Dr Zikrul Haque Road in Syedpur town, seized the huge quantity of Yaba tablets packed in a cartoon generally used for cosmetics and arrested Babu red-handed. The market price of the seized Yaba tablets is around Taka 40 lakh. “During primary interrogation, the arrested person admitted his involvement with trading big consignments of Yaba tablets in the guise of a cosmetics trader for a long time,” the release said. After filing a case in this connection against the arrested person, the elite force handed him over to Syedpur Thana police tonight, reports BSS.
Woman drug trader held in Benapole
BENAPOLE: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a female drug trader along with 500 Yaba tablets and 14 bottle Phensidyl from Benapole Rail Station early yesterday. The arrestee was identified as Mitu Khatun, 21, daughter of Abul Kalam of Bhuikara village in Abhoynagar upazila. Based on secret information, a team of BGB conducted drive in the area and arrested Mitu along with drugs, said Lt Col Ariful Haque, commanding officer of BGB-49 battalion.
