A teacher of a high school has allegedly committed suicide by taking poison after failing to get his name in the monthly pay order (MPO) list. The deceased was identified as Bidhan Chandra Ghosh, 42, an assistant teacher of Computer of Senergati Girls’ High School and son of Mrinal Kanti Ghosh of Daulatpur village. Shahidul Islam, assistant teacher of the school, said Bidhan took poison on Tuesday night as he did not find his name in the MPO list. Later, he was taken to Sadar Hospital where he died around 8 pm.
Abducted from Kushtia, girl rescued in Chuadanga

A Class-VI girl was rescued from Bhabanipur in Sadar upazila of Chuadanga district on Tuesday, 40 days after she was allegedly abducted from Balarampur village in Sadar upazila here. The victim’s father alleged that Asif Mollah, 22, son of Azad Mollah of the same village, abducted her daughter on August 30 last. A case was filed with Islamic University Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on September 6. Using technology, police traced the girl’s location and rescued her in the afternoon but failed to arrest Asif, said Ratan Sheikh, officer-in-charge of Islamic University Police Station. Later, the girl was admitted to Kushtia General Hospital for medical test and police continued drive to arrest the criminal, the OC added.
Swechchhasebak League leader held in Laxmipur
LAXMIPUR: Detectives in a drive arrested a Swechchhasebak League leader here on Monday night in a case filed over the killing of a Jubo Dal leader in 2015. The arrestee was identified as Ismail Hossain, general secretary of Mandari union unit of Swechchhasebak League and son of Jafar Ahmed of Samaspur village in Sadar upazila. Acting on a tip-off, a team of Detective Branch of police conducted a drive at the village and arrested Ismail from his house around 8 pm, said Mukter Hossain, officer-in-charge of district DB. The Swechchhasebak League leader also faces several more cases, including of extortion and terrorist acts, he said. Md Mizanur Rahman, organising secretary of Mandari union unit of Jubo Dal, went missing on March 1, 2015. His body was found in a pond in the area on March 7 of the year, reports UNB.
Fishing cat captured in Faridpur
FARIDPUR: A fishing cat was trapped and captured from Kushdanga village in Boalmari upazila on Wednesday. Farmer Anwar Hossain captured the fishing cat through setting up a trap at his yard after it had allegedly hunted two of his chickens, said Boalmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Zakir Hossain. Later, the farmer informed the matter to the local administration, he added. Meanwhile, a team from the local Livestock department was sent to rescue the fishing cat, said Dr Zahidul Alam, an official of the department. Later, it will be handed over the authorities of Bangladesh National Zoo in Dhaka, he added, reports UNB.
Sex stimulating pills seized at Benapole
BENAPOLE: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized India- made sex stimulating tablets worth Tk 1.35 lakh from Goyra bordering area here on Wednesday. Tipped off, a team of BGB-49 conducted a drive in the area and recovered the tablets in the afternoon, said Colonel Ariful Haq, commanding officer of BGB-49. The seized items were deposited to Benapole Customs House and a case was filed in this connection, he added, reports UNB.
