Retired cop killed in road mishap

A retired police officer was killed in a road mishap on Chandpur-Cumilla Regional Highway at Doabhanga under Shahrasti Upazila on Thursday noon . The deceased was identified as Md Abdul Malek, 85, a retired police man and a resident of Paschim Upalota village in Shahrasti Upazila Sadar. Locals and police said, when he was standing beside the above road adjacent to the mosque early in the morning , a speeding private car ,coming from Cumilla suddenly hit him from behind and sped away quickly leaving him seriously injured on the road. Seeing him lying senseless, the locals rushed him to Shahrasti Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries at noon today Thursday-said hospital source.
Municipal scholarship distribution programme held

Distribution of cheque and certificate of Municipal Scholarship Exam – 2017 was held at Adiba Convention Hall of Saidpur on Thursday. Prof Md Abu Bakkar Siddique, Chairman, Dinajpur Education Board was present as the Chief Guest. Dr. Amir Ali Azad, Principal, Government Technical School and College, Saidpur. Md. Shafiqul Islam, District Education Officer, Nilphamari, Rehana Yasmin, Upazila Madhyamik Education Officer, Saidpur Upazila were present as the special guest of the programmme. The chief guest in his speech encouraged the student to read more and more books and to dream about their life in open eyes not in sleep. Mayor of Saidpur Municipality presided over the ceremony.  
Youth dies as tree branch falls on him
BENAPOLE: A young man was killed and another injured as a tree branch fell on them in Navaran Bazar area on Benapole-Jashore road recently. The deceased was identified as Nur Hossain, 22, son of late Kadar Ali of Kashiadanga in Sharsha upazila.Sergeant Politon Miah, in-charge of Navaran Highway Police camp, said a branch of the 100-year-old tree broke down and fell on the two youths around 9:30 pm while they were going through the road riding a motorcycle, leaving them injured, reports UNB.
Child drowns in Sharonkhola

A child had a tragic death at Rajpur village in Sharankhola recently. According to the hospital and the victim’s family, the child of Hafiz Soweb Hawlader’s son Salman (5) went missing from his house. Members of the family unable to find him Salman and found his body from a pond after searching.
Worker dies falling off Manikganj court building
Manikganj: A construction worker died and four others severely injured after falling from the under-construction building of the district Judges Court in the town on Friday. The deceased was identified as Raihan Mia, 20, son of Mukul Ali of Kapashiapara village in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi district. Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Rakubuzzamn said five workers were engaged in the construction works dangling from a bamboo stand at the 5th floor of the building. As the bamboo stand broke down, the workers fell from it around 5 pm, leaving Raihan dead on the spot and others severely injured with two –Jwel, 20, and Hamim, 18, severely, reports UNB.
