Arms trader held in Jashore

Police arrested a suspected arms trader along with arm from Rampur Bazar of Sharsha upazila in the district on Tuesday. The arrestee was identified as Kamal Hossain, 28, son of Abu Siddique of Balunda Village of Sharsha upazila. Officer-in-charge of Sharsha Police Station, M Moshiur Rahman said acting on a tip-off they conducted a drive at Rampur Bazar at about 6:00 am and arrested Kamal as he was trying to sell the fire arm. Police also seized a shooter gun and one round of ammunition from his procession. A case was filed with Sharsha Police Station in this connection.

IU female students demonstrate for water

ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY: The female students of Desh Ratna Sheikh Hasina Hall of Islamic University (IU) on Tuesday night demonstrated in the campus demanding supply of adequate water in the hall. Around one hundred students demonstrated in front of the hall around 11:30 pm as the water problem was not solved despite repeated requests were made to the hall provost.IU assistant proctor Nasimuzzaman Nasim, at one stage, went to the spot and tried to respite the students assuring them to solve the issue within Friday. “We are trying to solve the problem and the Engineering Department assured us of solving the problem by Friday,” hall Provost Professor Dr Mizanur Rahman told UNB.

Three diesel thieves held in Natore

NATORE : Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested three members of a theft gang along with 2600litres of diesel stolen from trains from Azimnagar Rail Station area in Lalpur upazila early Wednesday. The arrestees were identified as Makbul Hossain, Abdul Awal and Rafiqul Islam of the upazila. Tipped off, a team of Rab-5 conducted a drive in the area and arrested them along with the diesel around 3 am, said RAB. The arrestees have long been involved in stealing diesel from trains and sell those in different shops in the area, said RAB.

One held with 5 gold bars in Benapole

BENAPOLE: Customs intelligence detained a man along with five gold bars from Benapole check post on Tuesday morning. The detainee was identified as Masudur Rahman, 45, son of Abdul Khaleq, hailing from Cumilla district. Nipun Chakma, assistant director of Benapole Customs, said that over suspicions, a team of customs intelligence searched Masudur’s body and recovered the god bars weighing half kilogram worth Tk 1.15 lakh, reports UNB.

Female worker dies falling off building

JOYPURHAT: A female worker died after falling from the under-construction Muktijoddha Complex in the bus stand area of Panchbibi upazila headquarters on Tuesday noon. The deceased was identified as Monwara Begum, 29, wife of Soharab Hossain of Ganeshpur village in the upazila. Farid Hossain, officer-in-charge of Panchbibi Police Station, said Monwara fell from the under-construction building while working on the 3rd floor, leaving her critically injured. Later, she was taken to the local upazila health complex where the duty doctor declared her dead, the OC added, reports UNB.
