Housewife tortured to death in Jashore

A man, who had alleged love affairs with the victim, tortured to kill a housewife at Kishmat Nawapara under Kotwali police station at around 8pm on Friday. The dead was identified as Kalpana Begum, 32, wife of M Sohel of Kishmat Nawapara village. Mehjabin, daughter of the victim told journalists that one Rubel killed her mother hitting her with an iron machinery device in the head. Sub inspector Faruk Hossain, in-charge, New Town police outpost told that the housewife was killed in absence of her husband. ` She could be killed over extra marital affairs,’ he added. Salahuddin Sikder, additional superintendent of police told the woman could be strangled and tortured to kill by a man who entered her residence on rent earlier. ‘Her two daughters Mehjabin and Trisha were given medicine to make them unconscious before killing her,’ he added. Apurba Hasan, officer in-charge, Kotwali police station told that no case was filed and none was detained in this regard. But the police were in hunt for the killer.
FF, BNP leader Saleh Ahamed laid to rest

AHM Saleh Ahamed, 75 ,freedom fighter and vice president of district BNP, laid to rest at Barishal Muslim Gorosthan on Saturday afternoon after Namaje Zanaja and state honour. He died on Friday at Barishal Sher-ew- Bangla Medical College Hospital, due to old age complications. His first Janaja was held at Amin Bari mosque near his home at Kawnia area of the city on Saturday morning. A team of police gave state salute to the deceased Freedom Fighter Slaeh Ahmed after second Namaje Zanaja in front Ashwini Kumar Hall on Saturday afternoon. He left his wife, one son and a daughters and huge number of well wishers. Leaders of Muktijodda Sangsad Barishal, district and city units of BNP and its front organization, Mayor of Barishal City Corporation, different socio-political orgaganisations were present the Zanaja and expressed their deep condolences of his death.
10 chronic patients get Taka 5 lakh in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: A total of 10 patients suffering from various chronic diseases like kidney complaint, liver cirrhosis, heart ailment,cancer and paralysis caused by stroke received financial support worth around Taka five lakh here on Saturday. Department of Social Services (DSS) provided the support. Deputy Director Office of DSS organized the cheque distribution programme in the conference hall of deputy commissioner (DC). On the occasion, some other students and affected persons got financial support for treatment and education from National Social Welfare Council. Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, deputy director of DSS Rashedul Kabir and its Assistant Director Dr Abdullah Al Firoj were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, lawmaker Badsha said the present government has taken many steps for the welfare of patients to help them pass their days without difficulties. “Considering their vulnerable condition, the government has launched welfare programme,” he said. The beneficiaries have been getting their allowance timely through their own bank accounts, reports BSS.
Schoolboy goes missing in Jamuna river
MANIKGANJ: A sixth grader boy went missing in the Jamuna river in Charkatari village of Daulatdia upazila on Saturday. Emon, a student of Class VI of Gazipur Jaynabazar Shishutosh High School in the upzaila, went missing while taking bath in the river around 3 pm. Divers from two local fire service stations have begun the salvage operation in the evening, said Md Mijanur Rahman, deputy assistant director of Manikganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Station. Meanwhile, Tarapodo Sikder, officer-in-charge Daulatpur Police Station said he was informed about the incident, reports UNB.
