Idols of Kali vandalized in two Sherpur temples
SHERPUR: Unidentified miscreants damaged idols of Hindu goddess Kali in two separate temples at Khaldanga and Palpara in Nalitabari upazila on Monday. Locals said some miscreants broke the Palpara Kali Temple’s idols with sticks that were pushed in through the windows in the morning, since the door was found locked. Meanwhile another group entered into the Khaldanga Kali Temple after breaking the door around noon when worshippers went to take bath at nearby river and came back to find the idol damaged. It’s a planned incident in a bid to destroy communal harmony, they alleged. On information, police rushed in and assured the temple authorities of taking necessary action against the culprits, said Sub-inspector Md Nazrul Islam of Nalitabari Police Station, reports UNB.
Medical students block Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway
GAZIPUR: Students of Tairunnessa Memorial Medical College blocked Dhaka- Mymensingh highway here on Saturday morning protesting the death of a physician in a road crash recently. Salehuddin Ahmed, assistant superintendent of Gazipur district Traffic police, said that doctor Shammir Shakir Prokash was killed after being hit by a BRTC bus in KuniaTargach area on Thursday evening. The students of the medical college put up barricade in front of the college around 9 am to meet their three-point demand including punishment of the driver, halting vehicular movement on the highway. Following the assurance of police, they withdrew their blockade around 10:15 am, reports UNB.
