Trump likely to meet Putin soon

US President Donald Trump is likely to meet Russian leader Vladimir Putin “in the not-too-distant future,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a US television interview, after Trump mooted a possible summit.
The White House announced on Thursday that National Security Advisor John Bolton will travel to Moscow next week to explore the idea of a meeting.
Egypt raises military pensions

Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi has raised pensions for military personnel and salaries for civil servants by 15 percent amid a wave of price hikes linked to austerity measures.
The raises, published late Saturday in the official gazette, will take effect on July 1. El-Sissi, a retired general, has raised military pensions several times in recent years.
Nicaragua clashes leave five dead

At least five people were killed including a baby Saturday when pro-government forces clashed with opponents in Nicaragua, according to reports from young people, the church and humanitarian groups.
“We are talking about five deaths” at this time “including the baby, but there may well be more,” in the worst incident, said Georgina Ruiz, an activist with the Nicaraguan Human Rights Center.
4 students drown in southern India river

Rescuers fished out bodies of four engineering students from a river Sunday in India’s southern state of Andhra Pradesh, police said.
The students drowned Saturday evening in the Krishna river near Vijayawada in Krishna district, about 42 km east of Amaravati, the main city of Andhra Pradesh.
“This morning rescuers fished out bodies of four students who drowned last evening,” a police official said.
“Nearly 100 personnel, from disaster response force were involved in the search operations that went on through the night.”
