45,000 liters liquor destroyed, 22 held in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) seized 45,000 liters of country-made liquor and arrested 22 people involved in drug-addiction and trading from different areas in the district on Thursday. On a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a raid at Vaya Luxmipur area under Charghat Upazila and seized the huge liquor and arrested six persons in this connection. Another RAB team arrested 16 persons for their alleged involvement in addiction of drugs and its trading after conducting a raid at Guripara area under Rajpara Police Station in the metropolis. Afterwards, a mobile court convicted and sentenced all the arrested people to different terms of jail. The seized drugs were also destroyed in front of public in general based on the court order, reports BSS.

Alhaj Shawkat Shikdar, who hoped for nomination of Tangail-8 constituency, hold a meeting with the religious people at Sakhipur in Tangail on Sunday .
The exchange meeting was held in the upazila Hall Room . Shawkat Shikder is an aspirant MP candidate from Awami League for Tangail-8 (Sakhipur-Basail) seat. The meeting was chaired by Amar Chandra Sarker. Over 200 leaders and activists from the traditional religion including the president secretary of 71 temples committee of the upazila joined the meeting. The leaders of the traditional religions said in their speech, “So far no leader of the party has ever heard our grievances and other problems by meeting people like this.” They think Shawkat Shikder is the leader of the field for the field staff. He called on him for the sake of our over all development. So, if he nominates him, it is possible to continue the victory of the Awami League in this seat. Sakhipur Upazila Parishad’s two-time chairman and Awami League general secretary Shawkat Shikder has been campaigning for the Tangail-8 constituency by announcing it as a hoped-for nomination.According to sources in the local Awami League, Kader Siddiqui resigned from the Awami League in 1999 and formed a new party Krishak Sramik Janata League, most of the Awami League leaders and activists joined the party. From that year, Shawkat Shikder organized the team as general secretary of Awami League. Shawkat Sikder declared the nomination of the candidate for four-time MP Shawkat Momen Shahjahan died on January 20, 2014. For the last four years, he is going to the public relations in Sakhipur-Basail.
Regional training on IPM in SAARC member states held
GAZIPUR: A four day long training programme on “Regional training programme on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in SAARC Member States” has started on 28 May 2018 at the Seminar room of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Gazipur and will continue till 31 May 2018. In the training program 20 participants from 07 SAARC member states, viz. Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh attended. The training program is jointly organized by SAARC Agriculture Centre (SAC), Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) and Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (APAARI). The inaugural session of the training program was held yesterday . Dr. Abul Kalam Azad, Director General, BARI was present in the inaugural session as chief guest. Dr Lutfur Rahman, Director (Research), BARI and Dr. S. M. Bakhtiar, Director, SAC was present as special guest. Dr. Paritosh Kumar Malaker, Director (Training and Communication) chaired the inaugural session. Dr. Syed Nurul Alam, Chief Scientific Officer & Head, Entomology Division, BARI gave welcome address and act as the coordinator of the training programme .
