Death anniv of Jibanananda Das observed in Barisal

The 60th death anniversary of poet of Ruposi Bangla Jibanananda Das observed in Barisal, the native city of the poet, on Wednesday. Some admires of the poet on this occasion put wrath under the mural of the poet at Kobi Jibanananda Memorial Hall built at the compound of his parental home on Kobi Jibanananda Das Sarak. Participant of the programme demanded to set up a Poet Jibanananda International Research Center at his native place.`Poet Jibanananda and his family members living at this place engaged in creative writings. However most of the land now possessions of government, non-government authourities and owners. We demanding recovery of the land for opening a research center on the life and achievements of the poet’ – participants and speaker of the programme said.Tapankar Chakraborty , president Kabita Parishad Barisal branch, presided over the programme there by putting flower wrath at the portrait of the poet and discussion on life and achievements of the poet and recitation of poems of the poet and written on him.
Truck crushes tea-stall killing one in Barisal

 A truck of Anchor Cement Company crushed a roadside tea-stall killing one at the spot and injuring two others at Rupatali area of the city on Thursday morning. The dead victim was identified as tea-stall owner Abdul Kader, 35, son of Abu Hanif from Bhola. The critically injured two admitted at Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital were Mizanur Rahman, 31, and Biplob, 29, labours of the cement company. Sub Inspector Abu Taher of Kotwali police station visiting the spot quoting witnesses said the accident happened when helper of the truck started the vehicle at about 7:00 AM Thursday in Gas Turbine area of Rupatali near the cement factory.
Info Fair held in Chapainawabganj

A three day long information fair and cultural festival was held in Chapainawabganj. It started on Monday and concluded on Wednesday.Committee of the Concerned Citizen (CCC), Chapainawabganj of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) organized the fair with the association of Chapainawabganj district administration on the Harimohon Government High School premises.A total of 46 in which 33 government and 13 non-government offices set up stalls in the fair.The concluding function was held with the deputy commissioner of Chapainawabganj Mohammad Jahangir Kabir in the chair. Pro Vice Chancellor of Rajshahi University Professor Dr. Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan attended the function as chief guest. It was addressed among others, by principal of Nawabganj Government College Professor Sultana Razia, mayor of Chapainawabganj Pourasabha Md. Abdul Matin, deputy director of local govrnment of Chapainawabganj Md. Ashraful Islam, senior programme manager of TIB Sazzad Hossain as special guests. After the discussion, a cultural function was held with the participation of radio and TV artistes.
