Unidentified body recovered in Sylhet

Police recovered the floating body of an unidentified man from a waterbody in Salutikar area in Gowainghat upazila recently. Md Rajib Ullah, in-charge of Salutikar police outpost, said locals spotted the body in a water body adjacent to Salutikar Degree College and informed police.Later, police retrieved the body and sent it to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue.
Festive wedding of 3 destitute women
KUSHTIA: With support from the district administration, the local social welfare department successfully completed the wedding of three differently-abled womenon Wednesdayat the Centre for Training and Rehabilitation of Destitute Women (CTRDW) premises. Under the supervision of deputy commissioner Zahir Raihan, the marriages of Ity Khatun, Urfa Khatun and Hawa Khatun were completed with all the necessary formalities. Their marriages were registered by the official qazi in the district, Qazi Abdul Aziz and those in attendance were all invited by the local administration and allocated separately as family members of the bride or groom to create a proper wedding environment. Ity Khatun was retrieved one and a half years earlier from Kumarkhali Upazila, reports UNB.
One held with 8kg hemp in Naogaon
NAOGAON: Police in a drive arrested a suspected drug peddler along with eight kilograms of hemp at Magura village in Sadar upazila on Friday morning. The arrestee was identified Sekendar Hossain, son of late Mojammel Hossain. A team of police led by inspector (investigation) Anwar Hossain of Sadar Model Police Station raided the house of Sekender and arrested him along with the hemp worth Tk 1.20crore. A case was filed, reports UNB.
Housewife strangulated to death
SHARIATPUR: A housewife was strangulated to death allegedly by her in-laws over dowry in Sadar upazila of the district on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Khadiza Begum, 21, wife of Ebadul Mridha of Bhasanchar village in Sadar upazila. Locals said Ebadul and his family members had been torturing Khadiza demanding dowry since their marriage in 2017. On Wednesday morning, Ebadul and his parents beat her up and strangled her to death, said officer-in-charge of Palong Model Police Station Md Moniruzzaman. Later, neighbours spotted Khadiza’s body left abandoned at her room and informed police. The body was sent to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, reports UNB.
Elderly woman killed in Rajshahi road crash  
RAJSHAHI: An elderly woman was killed as a bus ran over her on Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj highway at Godagari municipal area on Sunday morning. The deceased was identified as Rasheda Begum, 60, wife of Sarangpur Policepara. Sub-inspector Ali Akbar of Godagari Model Police Station said a Chapainawabganj-bound bus hit Rasheda around 8:30am while whe was crossing the highway, leaving her dead on the spot.
Injured youth dies in Satkhira  
SATKHIRA: A young man, who was injured in a clash over land at Bandakati village in Kaliganj upazila on Monday evening, died on the way to Dhaka early Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Masud Hossain, 24, son of Monayem Hossain of the upazila. Rajib Ahmed, inspector (investigation) of Kaliganj Police Station, said Masud’s father Monayem locked into a clash with his brothers Moazzem Hossain, Mokarram Hossain and Abdul Aziz in the evening over land related dispute.
Masud sustained injuries during the clash. He was admitted at Kaliganj Upazila health complex. As his condition deteriorated, doctors referred him to Dhaka. Later, he died on the way to Dhaka in the early morning.
