Housewife commits suicide in Barisal slum

A house wife identified as Khadiza Begum, 35, mother of 2 children, committed suicide at KDC Balur Math slum of Barisal city on Monday noon. Khadiza, working as a domestic help and wife of Jahangir Hossain, a rickshaw puller. There were family feuds over maintaining livelihoods due to poverty and Khadiza hanged herself from ceiling of the house at about 11:00 AM Monday, local people said. Dr. Asim Kumar Saha, attending physician at Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital, declared Khadiza as dead after she brought there by slum dwellers at about 11:30 AM Monday, said Abul Kalam, ward master of SBMCH. The dead body sent to SBMCH morgue for autopsy after lodging a case of unnatural death, said Kotwali police station sources.
BCC enlisted breast-feeder working mothers to give monthly allowance
Barisal City Corporation authourity freshly enlisted breast-feeder working mothers to give monthly-allowance.A meeting of the 30 general wards councilors and 10-female councilors of reserved seats, officials of BCC and women affairs directorate, held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner on Sunday to prepare the list. Rashida Begum, district officer for women affairs, presided over the programme attended among others by Shohidul Alam, deputy commissioner, K M Shohidullah, panel mayor, Nikhil Chandra Das. After discussion it was decided in the meeting that a fresh list would be prepared for distributing breast-feeding allowance among total 1,100 breast-feeder working mother of the 30 wards in the city for paying monthly allowance of per head Tk.500 for 2-year. The list was prepared first in 2011 and after ending 2-year tenure now they preparing fresh list, the BCC and women affairs officials told.
Day labourer electrocuted in Bagerhat

Abdul Jalil alias Gedu (30), a day labourer was electrocuted when he climbed a road side tree of Bagerhat-KLhulna Highway just in front of Bagerhat Court premises to collect fuel wood for cooking on Saturday noon. He used to reside in the village Khardar within Bagerhat district town. He hailed from the village Chotomasua under Mathbaria Upazila in Pirojpur district. Fire brigade sources said that at about 12 am the ill-fated man climbed the tree and as soon as he cut a branch of the tree it (branch) touched the live wires of the road side electricity line and consequently, there occurred a big firing, the tree was electrified and the man died instantly. Being informed of the matter a fire brigade rushed to the spot and recovered the dead body from the tree. Police sent the dead body to the Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Cyclist killed in a road accident in Bagerhat
A cyclist met his tragic end when he was run over by a speeding passenger bus bound for Bagerhat on Bagerhat-Khulna Highway at C & B bazar under Bagerhat Sadar Upazila on Saturday at noon. The deceased was identified as one Zulfikar Ali Bhtto (50) village Sugandhi under the same Upazila. Locals said that on the day at about 12 am when the unfortunate cyclist was crossing the road a passenger bus that was going from Khulna to Bagerhat dashed him violently from his back. As a result, he was fatally injured. He succumbed to his injuries on his way to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
