Advocacy meet held in Chapainawabganj

An advocacy meeting with law enforcing agency and health administration was held at the Chapainawabganj civil surgeon’s office on Sunday evening. said, only consciousness can save people from the infection of HIV/AIDS.Chapainawabganj civil surgeon’s office and non-government organizations Proyas Manobik Unnayan Society, CARE and Bangladesh Women Health Coalition (BWHC) jointly arranged the meeting with the support of Save the Children. It was held with the civil surgeon of Chapainawabganj Dr. AKM Mozahar Hossain in the chair.It was addressed by deputy commissioner of Chapainawabganj Mohammad Jahangir Kabir, mayor of Chapainawabganj municipality Maolana Abdul Matin, deputy director of Chapainawabganj Family Planning office Dr. Porimal Kumar Pal, deputy manager of Save the Children in Bangladesh Dr. Jubayer Sams and executive director of Proyas Hasib Hossain. The speakers said, the expatriate people are more vulnerable for HIV/AIDS and there is possibility of spreading the virus through them. It was revealed in the meeting that 80 percent of those who take drugs through injection are infected with Hepatitis C. There are 487 addicts in the district who take drugs through injectio They also stressed on building up awareness among people about HIV/AIDS. They also asked all to avoid unsafe sexual union, taking blood without screening and using the used syringes.

Durga Puja begins in Bagerhat

 A 5 -day long Durga Puja, the biggest and the most festive occasion of the Hindu community of the country started in Bagerhat district town and its all the 9 upazilas with due pomp and religious fervour on Tuesday. According to Bagerhat Zila Puja Udjapan Committee, as many as 583 Puja Mandaps were erected in the nine Upazilas of the district while12 Puja Mandaps were erected in the district town.This year the biggest Puja Mandop was erected at Shibbari in Hakimpur village within Khanpur Union Prishad under Bagerhat Sadar Upazila. Images of as many as 401 deities were erected on the Puja Mandop based on the stories of Ramayan and Mahabharat including the images of Goddess Durga and others. The image makers and the artists spent some 5 months to make the images. The organisers expected, this Puja Mandop will be adjudged as the biggest and the most beautiful Mandop considering the number images, decoration and lighting.The next biggest Puja Mandap was erected in Karapara Ramkrisna Sebaram temple within Karapara Union Parishad under Bagerhat SadarUpazila. Images of as many as 251 deities including inseparable images of Goddess Durga and others were erected on the Puja paddle.

Mugger flees from police custody in Jessore

A suspected mugger fled from police custody in Jessore on Tuesday noon. The incident took place near Jessore regional passport office at around 12 noon, said the police. Assistant sub inspector Ishrafil of Kotwali police station told that being informed of the arrest of listed mugger Shayan of Bezpara in the town he went to the spot to bring the miscreant to the Kotwali police station. But in the meanwhile he fled from the on duty police due to lack of care. ‘The police were trying to capture the miscreant’, he added. Locals said, the miscreant is a professional mugger. He used to mug passport seekers at the area very often.
