College girl commits ‘suicide’ in Jessore

A female college student allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room at Fatepur village in Chaugachha upazila on Friday noon. The deceased, Pryia,17, was daughter of Tabibur Rahman of the village, who was a eleventh grade student of SM Habibur Rahman College in the municipality. Local people said, Pryia hanged at around 12.30 and was taken to Chougacha Hospital where duty doctor declared her dead. Principal of the college Mozammel Haque said, Pryia was supposed to join the college’s study tour scheduled on Saturday.
Minor hurt in Jessore bomb blast
JESSORE: A minor boy sustained burn injuries as a hand bomb exploded at Bhoberber village in Sharsha upazila of the district on Sunday. The injured was identified as Anik Hasan, 9, son of Imam Ali of the village. He was admitted to Jessore General Hospital. Victim’s father Imam Ali said Anik found an object by the rail tracks near their house around 10 am. Later, he started playing with it thinking it a toy. At one stage, the bomb exploded with a big bang, injuring him, reports UNB.
Fire catches at students’ mess in Rangpur
RANGPUR : A fire broke out at a private students’ mess in College Para area of the city on Thursday night. Witnesses said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at around 8.30pm and burned down furniture and other valuables of 28 rooms of Parvej Chhatrabas. On information, a firefighting unit rushed in and brought the fire under control after an hour of frantic efforts, said Shahidul Islam, senior station officer of Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defence, reports BSS.
Health camp held in Shaghata
GAIBANDHA: A free ENT health camp for the poor was held on the premises of Kamalerpara College under Shaghata upazila in the district on Saturday. SKS Foundation, a local reputed voluntary organization, arranged the camp under its health services and nutrition activities of SAMRIDDHI (ENRICH) programme funded by Palli Karma Saghayak Foundation (PKSF). A team of physicians led by specialist surgeon on ENT Dr. MA Jalil Khan of TMSS Medical College, Bogra conducted the health camp from 9 am to 3 pm and provided the appropriate treatment to the patients. A total of 169 poor patients with chronically affected diseases on ENT coming from far flung areas of the upazila and its neighboring areas received free healthcare services including medicines as per the prescription of the doctors from the health camp. Local elite, social workers, NGO activists and journalists were also present on the occasion. M. Rajab Ali, head of programmes of SKS Foundation, said the SAMRIDHHI programme of PKSF is being implemented in the upazila since 2015 and different welfare activities are being done there for the poor. As a part of the activities of the programme, the health camp is held there after every three months, he added, reports BSS.
Two held with fake Indian currency in C’nawabganj
C’WABGANJ: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two persons with 7, 08,000 fake Indian rupees conducting an overnight drive in a mango orchard at Satrashia village in Shibganj upazila of the district. The arrested persons were identified as Md. Ujjal, 28 and Md. Sujal, 24, the two siblings of Monakasha Housenagar village in Shibganj upazila. RAB officials familiar with the drive said, acting on secret information, an operation team of elite anti-crime force raided the area at around 7.30 pm and arrested the siblings with the fake Indian ruppes. Later the arrestees were handed over to Shibganj police station and a case was filed in this connection, reports BSS.
