BGB recovers Tk 7 lakh from Benapole frontier

Border Guard Bangladesh personnel, in a raid, recovered Tk 7, 00,000 in an abandoned condition from the bank of the river Ichhamati on Wednesday evening. Subedar Abul Hossain, Putkhali camp in-charge, 21 Border Guard Battalion told that tipped of the BGB men recovered the money chasing money launderer in the evening. But none was detained in this connection. The Taka was deposited to Benapole port station police.
Death anniv of Hemanta Sarker observed
The 19th death anniversary of Tebhaga Movement leader Hemanta Sarker was observed in Jessore and Narail on Thursday.National Democratic Front chalked out elaborated programmes marking the death anniversary of the left leader. The programmes include wearing black badges, placing floral wreath on the grave and discussion. The Tebhaga Movement leader died in Narail on December 28, 1998. He was born at peasant’s family in 1916. He took part several communist movements.
Advocacy meet on family welfare held in Faridpur
FARIDPUR: An advocacy meeting on “Family welfare and publication week” here yesterday laid stress on creating awareness about family planning to help attain the goal of Vision 21 and Vision 2030 . Held at Faridpur sadar upazila auditorium, the speakers said media can play a pivotal role to create awareness about family planning and to reduce infant mortality rate. Presided over by Faridpur Sadar Upazila UNO Probhangshu Some Mohan, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Family Planning Deputy Director (DD) of Faridpur Mohammad Ali Siddique, UFPO Kamrul Hasan and female councilor of Faridpur Pourashava Farida Yasmin.
SSC candidate killed in Khulna
KHULNA: A student of SSC candidate was hacked to death in Chanmari Bazar area in the city on Tuesday night.The deceased was identified as Khalilur Rahman Siam,17, a Secondary School Certificate (SSC) candidate of Rupsha High School of the city. Siam was suddenly attacked in the Chanmari Bazar area at 7.45 pm by a gang of 5 to 6 youths and indiscriminately chopped him, locals said.He was rushed to Khulna Medical College and Hospital where on duty doctors declared Siam dead.Mizanur Rahman, Officer-in Charge (OC) of Khulna Police Station, said Siam might have been killed by local youths due to previous enmity centering establishing supremacy over the area. A case was filed with Khulna Police Station in this connection, reports BSS.
15 labourers injured as bus plunges into Rajshahi ditch
RAJSHAHI: At least 15 labourers were injured in a road accident at Hargram Natunpara in the city early Wednesday. mPolice said the accident took place when the bus, carrying the labourers of Aman Jute Mill, plunged into a roadside ditch after the driver lost his control over the steering while lighting a cigarette, leaving all the passengers injured. On information, a team of divers from Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defense appeared on the spot, rescued the injured and sent them to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital, said Farhad Hossain, station officer of the fire service, reports UNB.
2 BNP activists hurt in post-polls violence
CHUADANGA: At least two BNP activists, including a woman, were injured in a post- UP election violence at Dhopakhali village in Monohorpur union of Jibannagar upazila on Friday night. Locals said the supporters of newly elected pro-Awami League chairman Sohrab Uddin Suruddin attacked the houses and business establishments of BNP activists at Dhpakhali village around 7pm. The attackers vandalised the houses of the BNP supporters and the business establishments, reports UNB.
