Ferry service resumes on Shimulia-Kathalbari route
MUNSHIGANJ: The ferry service on Shimulia-Kathalbari route resumed yesterday morning after 10:30 hours suspension due to thick fog on the route. Assistant General Manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) of Shimulia, Shah Neaz Khaled said the ferry movement was suspended from 11:30pm due to poor visibility. About 400 vehicles, including buses, trucks and cars, remained stranded at both ends of the important route, he added. However, the ferry service resumed around 10am as fog started disappearing with the sunrise, reports BSS.
Fulbari Free Day celebrated

On the occasion of the Fulbari Free Day, reunion of Commander of Sector -7 Kazi Nuruzzaman Bir Uttam memorial was held at Fulbari in Dinajpur on Thursday morning.At the beginning of the ceremony, Rasida Bawa, wife of freedom fighter Badir Uddin and ex-district freedom fighter commander and chairman of former Upazila Parishad. Liaquat Ali officially hoisted the flag .Local freedom fighters organised various programmes to celebrate the day in a befitting manner. A colorful victory rally was brought out from local bus stand.Later, the reorganisation and discussion was arranged at C&B Dakbunglo Crossing with former freedom fighters Commander and former Upazila Parishad chairman Liaquat Ali in the chair. Rasida Bawa, wife of Shaheed Bir Freedom Fighter Badir Uddin as the chief guest and former M.P, Minister and Sector 7 Freedom Fighter President, freedom fighter Mohammad Mansur Ali Sarker spoke as the key speaker the discussion.Former BDR officer Mahbubul Alam, Sector 7 Freedom Fighter District District Convener Makshed Ali Mangalia, Assistant Commander of former District Freedom Fighters Matiur Rahman and former deputy commander Saeedur Rahman addressed the event as special guests.
Bridge construction starts on river Ayman
MYMENSINGH: The construction of a 40 feet long bridge on the river Ayman started recently aimed at connecting Basati and Kheruajani unions under Muktagacha upazila of the district. The Project Implementation Office (PIO) sources said the 40 feet long bridge is being built at a cost of over Taka 30 lakh under the project titled “Ddevelopment of Rural Communication Network Infrastructure”. The sources said thousands of people of both upazilas would be benefited after the completion of the bridge, reports BSS.
Creating awareness on family planning stressed
NARSINGDI: Speakers at a discussion today stressed creating awareness about family planning activities among fertile couples to check the country’s population growth. They said if the early marriage and unexpected pregnancies could be checked in a greater perspective, the country’s population growth will come down. The Department of Family Planning, Narsinngdi, arranged the meeting at Sadar upazila auditorium yesterday, marking the Family Planning Service and Publicity Week 2017.
