Youth held with 9 human skeletons in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI: Detectives arrested a young man along with nine human skeletons from Sreerampur area under Rajpara Police Station of the city on Sunday.The arrestee was identified as Md Shukur Ali, 28, son of late Anwar Hossain of Sreerampur Nadirdhar area of the city.A team of Detective Branch (DB) of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) conducted a drive in the area around 2:45pm and arrested Shukur Ali along with the human skeletons, said sub-inspector Saiful Islam who led the drive.During primary interrogation, Shukur confessed that he had long been involved in trafficking human skeletons, the SI claimed, reports UNB.

Fire guts 10 houses in Khulna

KHULNA: Ten houses were gutted as a fire broke out at Garuikhali Housing project in Paikgacha upazila on Monday night. Local sources said the fire originated from a kitchen of a house at 8 pm and it soon engulfed the adjoining nine other houses.Locals rushed in and brought the fire under control at 10:30 pm after two and half hours of frantic efforts. UP chairman Ruhul Amin said the affected owners claimed that the estimated losses caused by the fire are about Tk 20 lakh, reports UNB.

Police arrested two men along with 20 kilogram of venison from Jorshing bazar area in Koyra upazila early Sunday. Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive around 6am and arrested Humayun Kabir Huda, 38, a resident of Jorshing village and Khokon Molla, 42, a resident of 6 no Koyra village, along with the venison, said Md. Enamul Hoque, officer-in-charge of Koyra Police Station, reports UNB.

3 drug peddlers held in Comilla

COMILLA: Police arrested three alleged drug peddlers, including a transgender, along with 10-kg of hemp and 20 liters of toxic liquor in separate drives in Kotbari and Nishchintapur areas in Comilla on Dhaka-Chittagong highway on Saturday night. Two of the arrestees were identified as Faisal, and Jamir Uddin Boishakhi, a transgender, residents of Jamirpara area of Chandina upazila. Mainamati Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Mahbubur Rahman said Faisal and Jamir were held from Kotbari foot-over bridge area along with 20 liters of toxic liquor. Meanwhile, another youth was held with 10-kg of hemp from in front of the Sujan CNG Filling Station at Nishichintopur. A case was filed against them, he added, reports UNB.

Al -Haramain Hospital inaugurated in Sylhet

A 250-bed Al- Haramain Hospital was inaugurated at Sobhanighat in Sylhet city, aiming to provide modern healthcare facilities to the people of the district. Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith inaugurated Al Haramain Hospital formally on Thursday. Addressing the programme as the chief guest he said, “Our health sector has achieved mentionable progress although we have limited resources. But we have to develop such a healthcare system so that poor people can get the vices.”Addressing the programme as special guest Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid private investment in health sector is very hopeful.
Lauding chairman of the hospital Mahatabur Rahaman for his initiative for the development of heath care for Sylhet people, he said private sector can play a pivotal role in ensuring quality health care services.
Speaking at the programme, State minister for Health Zahid Maleque said the incumbent government is sincere enough for the development of private sector health care. Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury, MP, Awami League Organising Secretary advocate Misbah Uddin Siraj, former mayor and also city AL President Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran, district AL General Secretary Shafikur Rahman Chowdhury also spoke. Al Haramain Hospital Pvt Ltd is a hospital designed to provide quality, affordable health care to the people of Sylhet using the latest medical, surgical and diagnostic equipment and facilities. Presently it is a 250-bed hospital, with an expansion plan to increase it to 500-bed one, and establish a Medical College and a Nursing Institute in future.
