Olympic games begin

Bangladesh Olympic Association and Kishoreganj District Sport Association jointly arranged Youth Olympic Games Week at Local Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Stadium on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner Md. Azimuddin Biswas innugarating the Youth Olympic Games. Later, a press conference was organised by Bangladesh Olympic Association at Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Stadium. Deputy Commissioner Md Azimuddin Biswas presided over the press conference. It was addressed among others by Kamrun Naher Hero of Nation Sports Council, ADC (Gen) Torafder Md Akhter Jamil, Poura Mayor Md Pervaz Mia, Sadar UNO Abdullah-al-Masud, District Sports Officer Al-Amin Sabu and women organiser Adv Maya Bhowmik.
Freedom fighters policemen greeted in Bhola
BHOLA: District police greeted 10 policemen who fought in liberation war in 1971 in the district on Tuesday. A function was held at the conference room of the Police Super on the occasion. Police Super Md Moktar Hossain presided over the function while Additional Police Super Mir Md Shaphin Mahmud, Assistant Police Super Riazul Kabir and journalist Sheikh Sabbir Hossain were present Police Super said the freedom fighters are the bright sons of this soil and freedom fighters policemen resisted Pakistani forces at first in the country, reports BSS.
Woman killed in Jessore road accident
JESSORE: A woman was killed and her husband was injured in a road accident in front of Sharsha Pilot High School in Sharsha upazila of Jessore on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as Selina Akhter,45, wife of Anwarul Kabir who is superintendent of Sharsha Dhakhil Madrasha in the upazila. Sharsha thana officer-in-charge (OC) M. Mashiur Rahman confirmed the incident. Police said, a Caravan hit Anwar’s Motorcycle in the area on Tuesday night. Selina died on the spot and Anwar was injured. A case was filed in Sharsha thana in this connection, reports BSS.
4 Comilla University BCL leaders suspended
COMILLA: Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Wednesday suspended four of its leaders of Comilla University unit over a clash between two groups. The suspended BCL leaders are joint general secretary Mahmudul Hasan Shawon, deputy publicity secretary Ahmed Al Bukhari, deputy legal affairs secretary Ashraful Islam Saikat and deputy social affairs secretary Muntasir Ahmed Hridoy, said a press release signed by BCL President Md Saifur Rahman Sohag and General Secretary SM Zakir Hossain. University unit BCL president Ilias Sabus said the central BCL suspended the four leaders for breaching discipline. On December 14, two groups of BCL locked into a clash over a cricket match, leaving 10 people injured, reports UNB.
Youth held with Yaba in Sylhet
SYLHET: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a youth and recovered 118 pieces of Yaba tablets from his possession in Sripur tea garden area in the district on Tuesday. The arrestee is M Selim Miah, 29, son of Malek Miah, a resident of Naljuri village of Goainghat upazila. Selim was handed over to Jaintapur Police Station along with the seized Yaba contrabands, said a media press release signed by RAB 9 senior assistant director (media) and additional police commissioner M Moniruzzaman, reports UNB.
Stone trader killed in Satkhira road accident
SATKHIRA: A stone trader was killed and four pedestrians were injured in a road accident in front of Bhomra land port on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as Uzzal Hossain, a resident of Paikgachha upazila of Khulna district.Police said the accident took place when a stone-laden truck with Uzzal on board turned turtle in front of Bhomra land port around 7:30 pm, leaving the trader dead on the spot and four pedestrians injured.The injured were taken to Satkhira Sadar Hospital, reports UNB.

Jamaat leader held in Sirajganj
SIRAJGANJ: Police arrested a Jamaat leader from Dhamaikandi Bazaar area in Ullapara upazila on Monday night over sabotage charge. The arrestee was identified as Alauddin Al Azad, secretary of upazila Jamaat unit. He was accused in 17 sabotage cases.
Dewan Ashik, officer-in-charge of Ullapara Police Station, said that on secret information a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Azad around 8 pm, reports UNB.
